For anyone who has plowed with a WD/WD-45 and experienced both the hand clutch trip/throwout kit, and a 60- or 70-series plow with individual spring trip mechanisms on the shanks/bottoms... Does one work better than the other?

I don't think AC had auto-reset trip bottoms on those models of plows, so I think you were stopping forward travel with either mechanism. You either had to shift to reverse and re-engage the hand clutch to unhook a plow bottom from a big rock/root, if the throwout mechanism had tripped it... or you had to stop and reset the plow bottom that tripped. Correct?

I think I have enough parts to put the hand clutch throwout on one of my tractors, so I'm probably going that route. I was just curious if there was a big advantage to buying a 60- or 70-series plow with the trip bottoms.

The 60 or 70 series plows were not spring trip, but shear bolt beams. The trip beams started with 80 series plow frames.
Often I've had trip beam plows that would reset themselves after stopping by just lifting the plow quickly.
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

I have a hand clutch throwout and a lot of rocks. It is very difficult to set it correctly. It tends to be very sensitive especially when using a disk plow

The spring trip beams are listed in Section III of the moldboard plows parts catalog for all three of those plow frame series, with some variations to the spring trip design changing in 1963. I have seen 60- and 70-series with spring trips.

From looking at the 80-series frame pages in that catalog, it looks like the spring trip beams may have become standard on the 80-series, and were only an available option on the 60- and 70-series?

Hmm. So that would be a vote against, perhaps.
