 Topic: Eclipse from the Farm

I was going to go into town and join in on all the festivities, but I decided to stay home and see what the farm looked like during these conditions and see how the animals behaved. It was an awesome event. The sky looked different for awhile, but it didn't start getting really noticeable until a few minutes before it went total. The cattle were laying in the shade like they do most mid summer days. When the sky started darkening, they all got up and headed out to graze like they do every evening. They were definitely fooled. The dog didn't seem to act any different. We don't have chickens anymore. I would have liked to have seen if they went up to roost. I hope you all got to see this event. I didn't get much work done today, but it was well worth it.

We went to the Iowa State Fair today to pick up the products we had left over. When we came home at noon, the highway patrol would not let us travel south on I35. We are 1-2 hours north of K.C. I 35 south, according to them, was shut down somewhere north of KC. Too cloudy here to see anything.

I watched it at our farm also. I was out of the "path of totality" by several miles but still got 98%. The security lights all came on but I thought it would get darker. AMAZING to say the least!!!!! I will be at Carbondale in 2024 if I'm still above ground. Ryan

95.6 % blockage of the sun here in northwest Al. I was spraying fungicide on beans and thought well I'll stop when it starts getting dark. Next thing I know they said on radio that it was over. It was about like a cloud blocking the sun here. But the temp did drop from mid 90s to mid 80s that was nice.

We had about 1 minute 27 sec of totality they said. It was something to see. You could take your glasses off and look during totality. It looked just like all the pictures you see. It wasn't as black as night, but it was dark. I could see Venus shining in the sky clearly, simply amazing.

We were only about 50 % here in Central Maine. My wife and I dragged some resin lawn chairs out near the garden shed, donned our eclipse glasses and took it in. I was in the middle of building electric fence around our sweet corn (coons are into it even no not mature yet) so every ten minutes or so, I took a break and watched to eclipse progress. Parts of Maine will be in the total eclipse band in 2024 so we will make plans to see it if we are still above ground.

The cattle just kept grazing all afternoon. I thought they might go back to the pond and shade trees because it was only about 1:30 and it got really hot again. I guess cattle have no sense of time, because they grazed a few extra hours yesterday. I say their habits are pattern by the sun more so than an internal clock. Today they were back on their usual schedule, didn't head out into the fields until after 4:00pm. I learned something new I guess.

The thing I noticed was the cooler temp, it felt perfect here for a few minutes . but I didn't see no mouse's chasing any cats or nothing. Scott
