Topic: Allis WD Factory Top Link bracketPosted: 26 Dec 2016 at 8:41am |

Hi new to the forum and was going to see if anyone knew where i could come up with an AC WD Top link bracket. It clamps on the rock bar if that is the right name. The bar that goes between the two lift arms that has a pin hole going horizontal for a top link. I can only find aftermarket which I don't want. If anyone could help I would be very grateful. Or if anyone has one they would sell. I have checked with all the local salvage yards around me. Here is a picture to help visualize. Thanks

'Factory'?
I don't think Harry Ferguson's patent for the 3-point hitch ever allowed AC to make them... at least, not until the patent expired... but I'm pretty certain that others probably got away with it... Can any AC historians shed light on this? FWIW, I made my own top link bracket, mounts off the diff cover bolt pattern, but it's higher than the rockshaft, to yield more versatile geometry. I posted a picture on the forum here somewhere... Ah, here it is... http://www.allischalmers.com/forum/uploads/2752/top_link_from_side.jpg ![]() ![]()

Those top link brackets bring pretty good money if you can find them. They're kinda hard to come by.

They were used on snap coupler ac bush hogs. The height adjustment goes to there. We have one on the 45. Might have a spare someplace.

With my father I was pleased to sell the WD for the life of the unit. During that time - except for after market attachments - we did not have a "factory" three point attachment.
Now, they are readily available from many of the sponsors here. Dave, That is a very good job on that three point hitch. Good Luck! Bill Long

I like your design Dave. Gets that top link up more where it should be. Hopefully those studs are strong enough. Fair bit of stress can occur there.

I made a very very crude one (quick and dirty) that is "U" shaped with a hole through it, just slips over the rock shaft. It is at a lower position on the rock shaft. Made from 1/2 inch thick steel plate about 3 inches wide.

I made one out of 1/4" thick wall stainless pipe and welded a piece of channel onto that and the whole thing slides over the rock shaft. It hangs down when not in use and is out of the way.

the pic he is showing is the factory top link bracket that bolts around the rock shaft, they were made and sold by allis for the sc to 3pt adapter that came after the production of the wds but was allis, those toplink adapters are pretty pricey they were usually close to 200 bucks on ebay , but haven't been looking for a while mabe a year or so

I forgot to get back on here and look for replies. It was supposed to email me notifications if anyone replied. I've been busy building a house and finally started to relax and just remembered to check back. Already been 3 months. Found one on a tractor but haven't picked it up yet to see if it is worn really bad or not. I'll pm you Matt. Might still need one.

I would have several of the original Allis top links. (like in top picture) The part no for the cap that is the back is 332380. The part no for the front is 332379. Would have some top link holders that are not Allis but work well. PS Will sell. 785-353-2392

Yeah, it looks a little light, doesn't it? Let's run the numbers: Six studs @ 26,000lb tensile strength each= 156,000lbs. 3 point load in excess of 5000lbs results in front wheels in the air. If that load were entirely on the top link bracket, that's only 833lbs each stud... or 1/30th of the studs' tensile strength. The highest load I can apply, is a pallet on my 3-point fork attachment. When applying a 5000lb load to the 3-point, the top link is only subjected to 500lbs or so... ...but let's say it's 1000lbs... divided by six... is 167lbs... or a safety factor of 155. ...Let's say it's just the top two studs actually taking any tensile load... that's 1000/2=500lbs of tension on a 26,000lb fastener, for a safety factor of 52. I think it'll be okay. Ten years, and it hasn't failed yet... ![]() |
