I finally got the new drive belt for the mower deck - put it on last nite and mowed for about an hour.  New plugs and a little carb tweak and the C just purrs along.  I mowed in 1st in the rough stuff, but second was fine out on the flats - that narrow front end really really turns fast!  Only thing left to do now is change the earl in the finals and figure out how to lube the bearings in the pedestal.  From a quick look at the service manual (Thanks Jim at OKTractor) it looks like they don't run in oil, so I need to disassemble and repack the bearings.  There is a hole in the front of the pedestal - looks like it is threaded for a plug or a bolt - nothing in there now, I will run a tap in and see what the threads are - not sure what the helms the hole is for - some kinda bracket?
Anyway the point of all this rambling is if you have a C with a Sunmastr 60" deck, the main drive belt (from PTO to deck) is a C section 161.75" long.  Originally these came with a round belt - according to Art's Way the round belt is no longer available.  They sent me a Gates C158 V belt that works great.  But you might save a coupla bucks by shopping around.  Or more than a couple........

There is a plug that goes in the hole, I probably have extra's as I received at least 3 extra C pedestals when I brought the second load home from Kansas City. I think it is the same size as the oil drain, but I'm not there to check right now.

If I remember correctly.  the pedestal is lubed by putting 140 or 90 weight gear oil thourgh the hole with the plug.  Do not bother as the seal at the bottom will not hold the oil and it will all leak out.  We just pumped it full of grease with a grease gun.  You are right, the C is a handy and nifty tractor to drive and work with.  I still have our 1942 that my dad bought new on Pearl Harbor Day.  I also have our neighbors C that was purchased the same time as ours.  This was owned by John Swingle, the father of ED Swingle, who was killed in England on a flight while working for AGCO.  I also have a C with the wide front end.  Of the Bs, C, and WCs, I think the C was the most useful.

Nice pic, Miles - looks like you are having fun mowing.  When I mow with the C, use my D17 or G, I have to concentrate on not grinning too much as I still have my better half fooled into thinking I am working and not having fun.
Thomas I can't imagine what it is like having a tractor your father bought new - you are a lucky guy.  My father bought a '37 John Deere B when he was 16, but that tractor is long gone from our family - I remember seeing it in the '60's the last time.
 
My C does have the hole in the upper part of the pedestal, under the crank hole - it is just open, no plug.
There is no hole or plug in the lower part of the pedestal - I can see it pretty clearly in the pic of Miles C above.  Mine doesn't have anything there at all.  There is what appears to be a plug on the backside of the pedestal, off to the right side, facing backwards.  There must have been a couple different iterations of the pedestal.....?

The top hole below the crank hole is for filling the pedestal with lub.  The lower hole in the pedestal is for draining the lub.  Seems like someone turned your pedestal around to face backwards.  To my knowledge it should face forward.  The upper seal is right below the drain plug, the lower seal is on the bottom under the roller bearing.  Thomas is correct if the seals are bad the 140W will just leak out.  Gun grease will work ok in the summer, pretty stiff in the winter.  Can be a job removing the pedestal to replace the seals and lower bearing but might be worth it if it's a decent tractor.  Good luck on your C.  They are a real handy little tractor!
My tractor is not leaking oil, it's just marking it's territory!
