    Posted: 03 Oct 2018 at 4:24pm
Well if you recall last month I was coming to grips with quitting my job where I worked for the past 35 years and 11 months as my boss was as toxic as they come. In fact I resigned to her boss while my boss was on vacation. Steam was coming out her ears on her first day back from vacation. She called me into her office and lectured me on everything she didn't like about me over the past five years. She then said that they would pay me my last two weeks and that this would be my last day. I kept on the high ground and collected my last personnel items from my office, turned in my ID and parking tag and walked out. That was a couple of weeks ago and it has taken that long to get most of my ex-bosses poison out of my system. I turned in my exit interview and provided three pages of examples of working with such a vile person as my boss. Might not change a thing bUt it felt good.
My daughters threw me a retirement party last Saturday and many of my co-workers came along with the family and friends. Had a blast!!

Now all that said I am having the time of my life, no boss, no anxiety, eat when I'm hungry sleep when I'm tired and plenty of time to work on projects. I just want to thank each and every person that provided sage advise to me while I was trying to make the decision to get the heck out of that place. I made the right call.

I’m counting down until I can join you in retirement. Although I have to say my boss is the exact oppisite of what you were dealing with. Have a good time and enjoy whatever you want to. Now you just need a bumper sticker that says “GO AROUND, I’M RETIRED AND LOVE IT!”
If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY

As of June 1st I am HR. Happily Retired!!! Now I seem to have more time to see how many things I can mess up and ask questions about. But like has been said today is Saturday tomorrow Sunday everyday of the week! You lose track of what day it is anyway. Sounds like you are enjoying it already! Have fun!

congrats sir! I did it three years ago, haven't regretted it for a second.
Be sure to stay active, I did it at 55 and found out just how quickly pounds will sneak up on you, I now walk 4-6 miles a day with the pups and try to keep from getting too soft!

Stan,
Congratulations! I thought I was being forced out four years ago. I found it was the best thing that happened since I started grades school 60 years ago, That schooling and work really cut into my playin' time! Hope you really enjoy your retirement! The days and years will fly by! Get some projects started! Or cross off some things on your bucket list!
Might be time to buy another orange tractor to keep that WD45 company!

Thanks guys and yes I still have one boss but I think I will keep her. She was the first to tell me to walk away and start retirement sooner verses later.

I also have been much more active at home and have started back walking on the treadmill but just 2.5 miles at a time for now.

I have considered a new orange project. Something smaller like a model B maybe?

Right now I'm working on a botched motorcycle tank liner that was improperly done and is flaking off. Got mineral spirits in it along with sheet metal screws trying to get the loose stuff out before relining it.

Oh and the wife likes me being retired. She went to church tonight and I had supper ready for her when she got home. It goes without saying but a happy wife, happy life. LOL

Congratulations on your retirement!!!  5 years ago I had a toxic boss so I understand the problem.  Have no idea why management tolerates people like that.  Anyway, I was able to transfer out of her area & finish out my time & retire.  I've been retired 2 and a half years & love every day of it.  Forget about that toxic boss, do what makes you happy, & enjoy life!

I have been retired for 24 years, and have enjoyed every minute of it. not because of a toxic boss but because of shift work [changed every week] I have 10 tractors, most of them orange to keep me busy. I also live on a grass airstrip where I am the lawn boy. Several pieces of orange equipment to keep the  tractors busy also.

Sounds like you made the right decision.
My cousins husband retired from GM July 1st.  He had a pretty poor boss and the company is hiring outside contractors to do the work he and his brother and one other worker did.  His brother also retired and the last one still employed says it's a total disaster, she spends most of her time watching out for major screwups from the contractors.  He didn't even stay for the going away party the last day, had to show up for two hours and was gone in two hours and one minute.  Forty seven years, 8 months, now his only boss is my cousin, who keeps him plenty busy!

congrats Stan! I knew you was man enough to try it! I gotta tell ya, I was driving in the big city on day after I left my job, there was a car on the side of the road with a female in it, I stopped, and after walking up to the car discovered it was one of my old supervisors, she came out and was all friendly, and I told her that since she knew it all, have a nice day and I left her there! man did that feel good! I think I heard her say them 2 words I live by as I walked off! maybe you'll come across yer old boss this way some day too! just make a guy feel good inside!

you guys are making me feel lonely! I'm 67, figure on going to at least 70 before retiring. ALTHOUGH, it is not toxic boss that may change my mind, but rather Federal government regulations! it's getting more and more that more time is spent documenting what was done, why it was done, how it was done than actually doing it! I'm a 'just get the job done and move on kinda guy', not into writing novels.

I am still confident of this;

You're right Stan, every day is the same here ...I get asked to fix stuff for others, when I need a hand everyone has 'majically' disappeared !Confused

When they nixed the 'Lord's Day Act' up here and then opened  Sunday for all to shop at all businesses, it really, really has messed with 'hmm-what day of the week is it ??'

Yep! Every day is Saturday! My problem is that I put the granddaughters on the school bus most every morning so I HAVE to keep track of which day is which. Don't want to be waiting at the bus stop on a Sunday morning.
