Hi first post, i just purchased my first Allis Chalmers a HD-11 ep. and thought this would be a good place to start. have some manuals ordered, but i wanted to ask what should i look for as far as maintenance/problem areas? any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

Keep fuel supply clean(filters/tank) for engine systems longevity, keep good oil in the engine, I have swapped my HD7G over to 15w40 Rotella.
Pick a good manufacturer on transmission oil, do not scrimp there as it will not bode well over time to. Rails are hard to come by, keep some deflection in them when adjusted up but not too much and do not shift with the throttle full on, use the decel system should it have it.
Lots of 11's still in use, many members have them and keep them functioning.

Thanks DMiller, It does have the decel, i will keep that in mind. The undercarrige is all in pretty decent shape except the sprocket sections which i will need to replace soon (if anyone has any they'd like to sell id be interested). Also theres in a leak in what appears to be a transmission line running under and to the right side of the engine, not entirely sure its the cause of it but it will not steer only go forward and reverse. I guess thats the first thing ill need to address lol.
I was told the machine sat for 8-10 years but when i put a battery on it, it literally fired off straight away. Couldnt believe it, anyways Thanks again for the advice!

That looks like the dozer that was on Craigslist near Holdenville, OK. Did you purchase that machine from a Mr. Boyd?

That's great it started easily for you. I considered buying it but, figured I would have to camp out for days trying to get it running so I could drive it on a trailer.
Shipping costs were a show stopper for me. I'd be interested to know details of who you got to transport it, any troubles or hassle, and cost (if you don't mind). Anyway, keep us posted on this. I'm really interested to see how this machine turns out. . |

there are 2 series of HD11ep; early and late. early has twin disc torque converter, later is Rockford torque converter. changeover s/n is 13367. Also later ones have dash mounted air cleaner, yours looks the later air cleaner but check the chassis serial number to get the right books. last of the 11ep series have a 46Y prefix.

You will need to clean the screen on the transmisson filter mounted on the left hand side of the engine , this needs to be clean to feed the steering pump, while the top is off fill the pipe with trans oil to charge the pump, then try your steering. nice looking tractor

Het Merv , I think you are correct its a later model ,changes were torque convertor , air cleaner, bonnet , upper radiator , solid front Idlers , bolt on sprocket segments ,spin on fuel filters , larger fuel tank filler was moved to the right hand of the tank , gauges moved to the left of the steering levers , power brakes were replaced with double wrap type , there maybe a few more changes ? Also with the later torque convertor the hydraulic pump from a series B can be fitted to speed up the blade action

Screens were choked on my 7G but still moved just awkward, when you go to replace fluids drop the suction screen and make sure it is clear as Steve noted, the steering pumps are very temperamental on these.

Thanks for all the replies, I'm gonna try and get some time this weekend to drop the pan and get to that busted hose, then on to the fluids and cleaning that screen will up date as I go along.

Should be a hard number stamped directly into the finals case at the rear. Top right side but may be covered by the ripper tool head. Still a nice looking machine save the custom exhaust lack of stack.

Nice looking machine baremetal. Your serial number makes it a 69 model.I have a 68 model with the serial number 13204. I don't know what happened but my machine has the Rockford torque but according to the parts book and hd6 mere should have the twin disc. I'm looking to sell the machine and all my spare parts plus a heavy duty root rake made for the c frame. My 16b does all the work Around the farm now. 252 916 2927

Finally got home from vacation and caught up on work enough to get some dozer time in. Got two leaky hydraulic hoses changed and fluids drained and topped off. Pleased to report every thing at least seems to be working as it's supposed too. Two issues ive found:
1. the hydraulic track tensioner seal on the left side is completely blown out. I have two on order from minn par, Does anyone know if you can change this seal without splitting the track? seems like ive read you can? 2. the rear sprockets have apparently been updated to removable sections at some point and are getting a bit sharp the sections have FA and 10A11C stamped on them. can anyone help identify the origin of these? and are they still available? or does anyone have or know of any for sale? I would be interested in buying some if anyone know of any. |

Are your sprocket segments in two halves or smaller sections?
The ones for FA 10's are two section and pretty close to HD 11 pitch |
