    Posted: 13 Feb 2011 at 4:17pm
Hello,

I joined this forum to help my aunt and uncle with a restoration of a '55 HD5 Dozer.  My uncle inherited the dozer from his dad.  The guy restoring it is having a hard time finding reproduction decal sets for this dozer.  Are these available?  Also he mentioned something about possibly multiple shades of orange paint that A-C used???  He was unsure about which one.

I appreciate any help you all can offer, and if you need any other info about the dozer, I can try to provide that.

I really appreciate any help you all can offer.

Thanks
Shawn

I have a 1954 HD5B.  I gues yours is a "B".  Paint is Persian Orange although there are a few colours which are the same.  Easy enough to mix up at any shop.  Polish up a piece of your machine and take it in to test colour. As for decals I have been looking for a set for years.  If you find some please put up a post.  Most owners seem to get new decals made up with the plastic stick on types.  This is fine for the larger decals but not for the instrution decasl on the dash.  Good luck.

Thank you for the reply.  What do you mean by the plastic stick on type decals?  I will let them know about the Persian Orange paint.  We wont be able to color match the paint as the dozer set out for alot of years.  Not really any good paint on it.

Also, what does the "B" designation mean in "HD5B"?

Thanks for the help, I appreciate all I can get.

Thanks
Shawn

HD5B was the 33 link track and machine will be found as dozer or a Ag tractor without attachments. HD5G was a 1 yard loader machine with a Tracto-Motive loader and rigid mount of the truck frame to machine main-frame. The HD5 also came with a long track version.
Most basic machines are the same from first to last but some modification is noted over years. longer pin bosses in loader frame, different bracing in loader frame, 2 speed reverse, and others such as doing away with rifle drilled axle, splines on rear sprockets, hydraulic pump design and mfg. Grill guard, belly pan, engine oil pan, either holder, lighting, and winch or pto mount, and counter-weights varried by year also.
Rear housing of the HD5 and the HD6 are the same as is the tracks and rollers, sprockets, idelers and some other parts.
There is a gentleman on here that makes decals you might see if he can make them for you.
Have seen the machines in both, AC Yellow and PO 1 color as factory paint.

I spoke to John Schultz @ MinnPar in Minneapolis, last week. He is at 612-379-0606. He shared with me that they have the ability to reproduce all decals for the AC equipment. I mentioned that I was looking for the HD-6 decals for our tractors and it sounded like they could produce them.
