I recently purchased a 1948 Model G and was given 2 sickle mowers along with it. I am looking for info on rebuilding the mowers. Bearing info, etc.. From what I can tell by pics online I think I have the No. 4 model. Would greatly appreciate any help.

You are correct, the G mower is a #4. It shares may parts with the B/C and the #5. I have many NOS and used parts for those mowers. Find out what you need and go from there.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

So far I have the 90 deg gear box off. I need the two bearings that come from that. From what it looks like, it seems I’m gonna have to remove the brass pin that holds the bevel gear on to be the bearings out. Also, behind where the pulley mounts there is/was something installed in front of the first bearing. Had springs in it, it almost looks something like a clutch but doesn’t make sense for one to be there. Just a pile of rust now. Surprisingly the bevel gears are almost immaculate.
I have been able to get the main drive shaft to spin but haven’t dug into it yet. |

I need the 2 bearings and oil seal that’s in the 90 deg gear box. I got one bearing out so far the one next to the oil seal. I can make out an “E” and an “3” on it but that’s it. Do you know any info on these bearings?

The AC part number for the
oil seal is: 208417, that is by the hub shiv. And the bearing ball part number is AC 210024. When you go to 90 degree by your gear bevel drive, that number for bearing ball is AC 802379. If you have any questions, I have a parts book if you are interested. Let me know and I will send you the contact information to obtain one. |

The G sickle mower should be covered in one of my G implement manuals:
