I am planning on going to get my forty-five road grader this weekend, and I think I want to change the oil and filter in it before I try to start it up. Since it is 150 miles away, I can't look at it to see what it has for oil filters, so could someone help me out there?  It has the 516 buda/ AC engine in it. Does it take one filter/2 filters? Are they spin on or canister, and what is the filter (or filters) numbers. And how much oil should it take, and would cenex 15-40 super lube be an acceptable oil?  Thanks, Darrel

Darrel,

From my service manual

3.5 gal SAE 30

Single element

Allis Filter #4371021 - seems to be readily available here

I'll add some bearing translations some other time from our experience.

Have fun!

Darrel,

24 volt.  If you've still got the generator on, it looks like (from the wiring diagram I have) that it is positive earth.   Might pay to check.

I've gone to a Bosch alternator and am using negative earth.

I got my road grader home yesterday, but unfortunately I was unable to get it running. The engine seems to be stuck. Could be something serious, or minor. The guy that I bought it from had dumped diesel fuel down the exhaust  to "keep it from seizing up", and we think maybe there is a cylinder or two full of diesel locking it up. Will keep working on it. Darrel
