I've had a question for a little while and couldn't find an answer. What was the purpose of the under hood muffler on the Model B? Most of the pictures I've seen and videos all have that tall muffle. Was it an option on the tractor? Was it short so it doesn't smack branches in an orchard? or did it not serve an purpose and was just the stile of muffler at the time?

Thats just the way Allis made them for awhile. My 47 came from factory with under hood muffler. My grandfather changed it to vertical after the second one burnt out from the heat.
