My Allis C has a rear wheel that the eccentrics will not tighten. I have replaced the eccentrics but did not help. Is there an easy solution? I have tried shims but they fell out. Thought about replacing rim with one that bolts on but only as a last resort due to expense. Any help will be appreciated.

Use 4 eccentrics ,gives you twice the take up.

Might also be able to build up the non-eccentrics with weld, too...

Are you for sure tightening these the correct way? The eccentrics (2) have a cross on the front part of the bolt. They are installed NEXT to each other and when tightened, the bottom part or long part of the cross is TOWARD the rim. You shouldn't need more than 2 of these.
IF you DO, you've probably got the problem that I had. The rim is rusting out. This allows the eccentrics to PUSH into the rim eventually causing THIS to happen. ![]() ![]() Luckily I had an extra hitch part on the rear that held the tractor up otherwise I'd of had a REAL mess. |

Thanks guys for your replies.
wfmurray - I think will try bending shims as the eccentrics on ebay are $25 DiyDave - Dont have a welder Ted J - yes, I am sure I tightened them the right way. These rims are not rusty |

I had a B that wouldn't tighten up. Tried all these tricks, no help. Finally figured out the hole in the wheel center had worn over size. Replaced the wheel center and it tightened up just fine.

I welded a few beads on mine to build up the clamps and give more compression on the rim... You should be able to find a local welder who can do that for cheap.

Like them all, but love the "B"s.

I had the same problem with one of my B's. Kinda like Ted. One wheel fell off. PO didn't use eccentric bolts. I messed with it forever trying to get the wheels to tighten up. Finally got it to tighten. Still not sure I trust it. On the other B, I put a pair of bolt on rims on it. Just one of those things I had a problem with. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies steve(ill) and mdm1.
Will look into welding the rim-might be cheaper than new eccentric clamps. Yep, that is what worries me ,too--wheel falling off while driving! Hope neither you nor Ted were seriously hurt. |

It just scared the be-geepers out of me!! Had to change my pants is all.
![]() This was a new to me tractor, I had it only a short time and this happened. The guy I bought it from had painted over the rust and I didn't see it. ![]() If it wouldn't have been for the extra hitch and the belly mower, I'd of tipped over and God only knows what could have happened. |

Really didn't scare me much (I have kids) but it was at the far end of my property. Hauled it back with the WD-45 with one rear wheel on. Guess what-that one came off before I got back. Just dragged it back to the cabin. Must be a WI thing I guess.

On my Dad's C, after we shimmed, that didn't work on hillsides, then we welded and ground down, just couldn't get it right and on a hillside had problems again, he finally ponied up for new rims and good wheel locks and eccentrics. 15 years later it's stll mowing along without further trouble. It's been mowing his yard since 1977 and sometimes mine and my 1/2 mile long ditch and it did my great uncles across the road since the mid 1980's upto the early 2000's. It has outlasted nearly every rider around with little upkeep.

My rims are new rims. I matched up the clamps from 2 sets. This was an FFA project tractor that never got finished. I will keep an eye on them.

Ted J-when it comes to buying stuff who can you trust? mdm1 Lonn-maybe I ought to think about a new rim - the kind with 4 loops, not eccentrics |

Dad bought new rims that used eccentrics but the bolted version is a better set up IMO, though not correct for the restorer. Ether way you should be fine for a very long time.

Lonn-I am going to try thicker shims first but will post classified to see if can get some eccentrics/cam lock bolts to try next cause I dont think these shims will work.
Also am checking prices on 4-loop rims. Thanks. |

Mike, let me know how you do with eccentrics. I might have some at the farm. If I were you, I'd contact Paul Barnsley - he goes by 'PaulB' on here. or Ken Aggen - he goes by 'Ken in Texas' on here. These two guys have LOTS of stuff for B's and C's. They are my go to guys for this kind of stuff. Just send em a PM and they'll take care of you. |
