Cummins, Cat, and Detroit Diesel had the business. It was about as easy to get one of their owners to switch to an Allis Chalmers engine as it was to get a John Deere owner to buy an Allis tractor. The engine division and corporate management must have been smoking something stronger than tobacco to think other wise.

I've always used the PD or the PS and shifted down a gear when turning and keep the throttle at 75% or more. Then throttle up and up-shift after the implement is in the ground. |

Other than on the road I never use the foot throttle. I do like the 190 set up a little better than my 7050 but it's not really that noticeable. Also I think the 8000 series don't seem as well built in the cab as the 7000 series are. More flimsy pieces and parts. The throttle needs a longer handle or like the later ones on the side console.

I have literature showing the 2800, 2900, 3400, and 3500 as 'Country and City 'truck engines. I am putting a 3500 MK II engine in a 220 that was on a municipal water pump. The manual that came with it is for a 'On highway engine'. There were numerous HP. ratings for the "Big Al" |
