I have been looking on e-bay at several different types, rectangular case... 18 watts or 24 watts ..... say they fit 4 wheelers / tractors / dune buggys.

I got a 12" "Cree" combination spot/flood light bar for $20 on Ebay. I'm very satisfied with it.

On another note, I bought a 12 volt LED bulb at Menards that looks like a 60 watt Incandescent bulb. Round with a screw base. I wanted "light" out in the middle of a field that had no electricity. This bulb was 10 watts, but equivilant to a 60 watt bulb that you use in the house. I mounted the bulb in a socket with a switch and a garden tractor size battery that was rated at 18 amphours.... that is one amp per hour for 18 hours... the 10 watt bulb pull less than 1 amp so it would run 18 hours theoretically.... It worked great for a remote lite for several hours out in the field and the light shines 360 degrees.. cost of bulb was about $8.

like steve said ,ebay is the cheapest,i bought some back in march,i got 8 square 27watt ones for $60 dollars inc freight ,so $6 each. They have done a lot of hours on the sprayer and other tractors with no probs. Also bought a lightbar of the same company which was a cree type with combined flood and spot ,36 inch was about $80 worked great but got moisture in it over seeding and they replaced it for me,no worries.

We have bought ours on Amazon, Larsen Lights, Worthington Ag Parts, and a private reseller. All work just fine but I imagine the one's from Larsen and Worthington are better quality? Hard to say so far.

I have been getting some takeoff JW Speaker ones that are very nice. Even used they aren't cheap but they will last forever.
On another note about LED's I have been told that you need to keep some regular lights to create enough load to get the generator to excite and charge. I am not sure if that is a urban legend or not. |

alternator/ generator looks at the battery condition and gets excitation from it....... You can run any lights or no lights, and the battery will still charge.

It can be a load issue with some switches because if the switch doesn't have good clean contacts the led lights might not draw enough current to work but you should get a new switch in that case. I think things like that make people think it is a problem for everything else.

What Steve(Ill) is refering to is actually not the gen or alternator, its in the turn signals... where your replacing them with LED.. they do not have enough draw to make the signal stat work so you have to put in a resistor or keep a bulb or two in the system to load it enough to work correctly.
Yea, Ebay seems to have some cheap units, there was a thread onhere a while back about them. Heres the one link from awhile back to the thread on LED lighting... http://allischalmers.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=123879&KW=LED+lights&PID=1026743&title=tractor-lighting#1026743 |

Dirty contacts cause problems with large loads. It will begin to arc and heat up. If it makes contact enough to complete the circuit the lights will come on no matter the amp load. Larger loads will test bad connections.
