The owner says it will only turn left sometimes. He also told me that it has hyd steering clutches. I know it is hard to diagnose a problem on the computer, but is there anything that would commonly go wrong with these units, and what it might take to fix it. Also what motor would this have in it, and approx year.

It could have pedal steer, but I thought that happened on the 650 series. Most likely steering clutches are worn. They are dry type clutches. Year would be late 60's. Engine is a 200 cu inch diesel. HTH Tracy Martin

655 had pedal steer / HD4 had lever steer , Turning a slow turn can be clutch only control but turning a hard turn uses the brake bands .
Trying to see if it has hand clutches - looks like it might be upgraded as can not see levers.  As you step on the brake (light pressure) that track should stop driving and the machine slowly turn in the direction of applied brake. Stepping with full force should apply the brake as well as the clutch and machine should pivot on the locked track.
Engine is AC 2200 series . 4 cylinder - was made in gas and diesel using the same components of block. Engine was used in fork trucks and Cotton pickers. In the cotton combine it used a turbo version and could put out up to 85 HP.
