I have just one of these Heavy Duty Snap-Coupler latches and I can't even remember when or where I acquired it.
It has a casting # AM6036 on the main body and #AM6035 on the latch part.
As near as I can determine, the D-17 used the same latch (with the cross bar hole) as the late WD-45 used. The last photo compares it with a late WD-45/D-17 latch.
So.....was this latch used on a larger tractors such as the D-19? Edited by Brian G. NY - 17 Apr 2012 at 11:42am |

Yes, the D19 and I suspect the early 190 snap couplers used them as well.

I have heard 2 different stories, 1) is they were made for the bigger tractors, D19 and 190. 2) also heard thet they were brought into production in 1966 so that they would have been made after the D19?
I have always assumed the first story. |

Dad bought a new pair from the dealer in late 60's for his WD which he converted to snap coupler. They were the HD ones like that.Probably the latest/gratest design and what you got when buying new at that time.

Well, I did a little more research and, and as near as I can determine, this HD latch came out in June of '58.
However, it is shown in the WD-45 Parts book so I assume it would have been the one you got for the WD, WD-45 after the dealers ran out of stock of the earlier versions.
It is the latch that came new on the D-14, D-15, D-17 and D-19 tractors.

May I ask where you researched this? I have been trying to find this information for a long time. |

I think it was probably an option, at least for the smaller tractors....otherwise there would be a lot more of them around.

Matt,
I got some of my info from my WD-45 parts manual, supplemented by info from
the Agco on-line parts lists. I am attaching a picture of my "Marked Up" WD-45
parts list page which explains my rationale; I'm not saying it's 100% accurate tho.

Well....who knows? The parts page only shows one with pipe hole but the 2 above both have it even though they are different in "heaviness".

Yeah Steve, that's why I inserted a 4th "mystical" series that we all know exists and is probably one of the most common but is not even listed in the book.
Like you say, who knows?
