Beautiful winter day here. Took advantage and moved a bit of wood up to the house. 😀

Dry wood so not real heavy. Lifts it easy - each one about 5 day supply for the wood stove

That stockpile of firewood took some work. The warm fire should make it worth while. I'm in Missouri, so I really don't know what you endure North of the border Good looking WD.

Leon that pile that you see is 6 full cords or 6 bush cords as the wood guys here call it. I had 8 bush cords at the start of the season. If you look to the left you can see another pile of wood waiting to be cut and split. There are 4 rows in the stacked pile. I cut it all myself with old Pioneer vintage saws. Love doing it. A lot of fun and some good exercise so will continue as long as I can.

Living 12 miles from (Cornwall) Ontario I, also, like to cut wood in cold weather. No bugs and (usually) no sweat. It's always nice to be outside on a fresh winter day!

Ed, thanks for sharing your area’s requirements for winter heating. IMO, an indoor wood burning heat is an awesome feel, sound, & aroma. And, an outdoosr wood boiler can be nice too.
Your AC WD looks awesome & probably starts no matter the frigid temps? |

Here is my wood splitting/storage operation - one man show. We took down several pine trees. We are near Westport, Ont. The remaining "stump" is the Zip Line anchor for the grandchildren. Filled up the wood shed. ![]() ![]() WF owner Our family dairy farm is across the St Lawrence from you east of Cornwall near Lancaster where our family settled many years ago. My brothers (7th Gen) operate the farm today and now use Ford/NH tractors. I remember as a youth travelling to Malone, NY (I think) with my father to get parts from the Allis Chalmers Dealer for that area, as we were in a rush to get some AC equipment back in the field. Back then it was a D17 S1, D15 II, and Ford 8n for field work |

The AC dealer was Debyah's. They were in North Bangor, only a few miles from Malone. They were a very good dealer when Bob Debyah was alive and at the helm.
I used to go through Lancaster on my way to Sanilit on Alexandria to get baled shavings. It's a small world!

Thanks for all the replies!! I didn't think that many people still played with wood but looks like lots still do.
![]() ![]() Just to clarify the wood in the pic is more than one winters supply. I use about 4-5 bush cords each year to heat the house so there is more than I need for this winter! Edited by Ed (Ont) - 22 Jan 2025 at 11:59am |
