Anybody have an idea as to how long is the D graders? ---Need to send truck after mine, it got stranded 45 miles from here and I got to get it home! Might can get the tow truck guy with his rollback unit but I need to know how long the bed would need to be to hold it. weight/width no issue, just the length!  Thanks in advance!! ac fleet

An 18' bed can do it, if you back the grader on, drop the blade, and let the front wheels dangle...Wink

Hi.   I noticed that you might have mismatched rear tires for size and tread pattern. A 'D grader' friend, had to replace his 'drives' because all four tires/wheels must travel the same. It is a hard/expensive repair if you have to get into the drive sprockets, chains, etc..

I hope you don't mind me mentioning this. Parts are getting hard to find. I am currently working on trying to replace/find some hydraulic brake parts, and the emergency brake components. My 'D Special' is a 1967 model, so it has hyd. brakes.

   On a lighter note, did you and Shameless notice that the tape measure I used, for the grader length measurement, was somewhat odd, 18.10 = 19 ft. This measurement is odd, no doubt. Canada has been Metric for a lot of decades; but, this is sure different. One side of the tape has feet/inches, and the other side has this odd combination.

Ross, I have to disagree about the tape measure. It still measures in imperial but is actually an engineers tape that measures in feet and 1/10 of a foot instead of feet and inches. As an engineer I have both plus metric tape measure and a calculator that can help with conversions. I also agree that all the drive tires must be identical to help preserve the final drive system and wear and tear on the tires since all four wheels are locked together and there is no differential. It is somewhat similar situation with a dual wheeled truck. If you only buy two new tires, don't put one on each side but put the two new tires together on one side and the two worn tires together where the differential can adjust for the difference in outside radius.
