I about broke down crying today!!!  I sold my A2 Gleaner a couple of weeks ago to a fellow from up near Laffeyette In (may not be spelled right).  He said he was going to use it to farm a little around the edge of some fields his parents owned and also use it to tow stuff around (??????).  I thought well a sales a sale and it had to go anyway as I needed the money pretty bad.  I helped load it up and we talked a little while and he was on his way.  Well fast forward to today and I hauled a load of scrap to our local scrap yard about 12 miles away.  Got over there and my jaw just dropped.  There was my A2 on the top of the scrap pile.  Grain bin mangled and the engine pod mangled up with parts missing.  Oh how I hate a liar.  I asked the scrap yard owner (who I am friends with) about it and he made the comment that they hauled it in there, pulled what they wanted off and then argued with the guy running the scales for quite a while that they were cheated on weight.  Anyway just wanted to fume a little.

Aww that sucks.  I wouldnt want to sell it to have it meet that end either.  Pardon the green, but I couldnt imagine my little JD 4400 on top of a scrap pile.

Nothing makes me madder than someone who lies about what they plan to do with something I sell. I realize that once the money changes hands, it's not mine anymore, but they could have been honest. It's like when you have to give away a family pet. You know you can't keep them anymore for whatever reason, but you want to make sure they go to a loving home. You wouldn't sell the family dog that you and your kids raised from a pup to someone you knew was going to use it to start a "puppy mill" or starve and beat it would you? My son dabbles with scrap metal(a lot of which I bring home from mod jobs), but he doesn't steal or lie to get it. I just hate that happenned to you. It's like seeing the family dog you just gave away lying dead on the side of the road where it was thrown out.
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

Adam - I agree that is just sad.  You know I'd probably rather see my old allis stuff rust away rather than die such a horrible death and get sent to China.  Sounds like they didn't even part it out much to save other machines.  And that was a field ready machine!!!! Might explain why some people won't sell their rusty lawn ornament too for fear it'll have the same fate.  Mike

Yeah thats a bad deal, thats why if i sell old stuff i always try to price it a ittle bit above scrap value to try to weed the scrapers out, but thats hard to do if they have a buyer for the engine wheels and tires etc

Some on e should be whipped... don't know who first, the one that scarpped it or the one that sold it. I guess I would start with that lying scrapper first. Guess I wouldn't crack the snake on the seller now, specially after seeing his pride and joy ontop of the scrap heap, thats probably worse than any whippen he could get.    Sorry to hear of your loss and saddness.... Reminds me of Monsanto. I buy beans from them,I pay them what they want,done deal. Then they can tell me what I can and cant do with the beans. Really pisses you off doesnt it. Dont fret it Adam,You got what you wanted for it,they got what they wanted. I dont care what anyone does with what I sell them,if we both agree on a price.

I am selective to who I sell stuff to for that reason. Take a piece of equipment you worked and made money with then have some A&# come by and strip it done like its nothing.....makes my blood boil.  I guess I look at equipment as family members...is that wrong??

Once it is sold IT IS GONE no matter what happens.Like Cleaner said about getting your money.I  do not tell anyone" anymore" what I am going to do with something I am buying ,it dose not matter anyways as long as the man gets paid for what he has.He (anyone) selling anything  that is worryed about what is going to happen to it ,then one better find another way to get money .There is NO one I know that wants to pay alot for anything,BUT everyone ALLWAYS likes to make money! I've got a very nice '61 A gleaner that I SAVED from the scrappers that you can have for the right price. Wife say's I'm nuts and it's ugly and with just  1 acre really hard to 'justify'. But I like the old beast! Starts,runs,drives,things go round and round...just a long road trip to you !
 
You might want to give the scrapyard your name/number post it in his office that if ANY farm stuff comes in, please call you if he can hold for 24 hrs,to give you a chance to buy the item.

That's why I have several things that are rarely used but I won't part with them because once they are gone, they are gone for good and then regret starts.  Not worth it in my book.

I agree with the thought process about not letting something go if you don't want to see where it ends up, but I had two combines that I used (The A2 and an F).  I had been trying to sell them for a while since I bought an M2.  The M2 is compatable with the rest of my equipment and I got a really good deal on it.  I actually hadn't planned on selling the F since I really liked it, but I just had to have the cash from both of them to buy the M2.  Its just progress.  I have a chance to pick up some ground in the next couple of years, and while it won't support my family completely it will help quite a bit.  I may go into restoration as a side business as well (I do some now, but on a smaller scale).  With some health problems I have I won't be able to do my current job forever due to tightning CDL requirements.
Anyway that brings me to another thought.  My father in law reminded me that they were headed east with it originally and the scrap yard was west.  They were extremely over height and overweight as well.  Got us to wondering if they got caught and were given an ultimatum (get rid of it or get fined).  It has happened around here before.  A local scrapper got caught with an old grain truck back half he used for a trailer.  They found tons wrong with it and were going to fine him.  He told them what if I just pull the pin at the scrap yard.  Thats what he did.

Friend of mine sold a 70's Camaro in the 90's. A 20 year old motor head type bought it. Guy gave my friend almost top dollar for what it was. The new guy proceeded to use it like a off road dune buggy. My friend would have spasms if anyone brought up that car and  the new owner to him. I always spit out "Go kick the guy in the ass that sold it to him if it makes you feel better."
 
Was no lying went on. Kid told him he was looking for a Camaro that needed a full restoration. That is what he bought.
 
My dumbass friend just assumed he was gonna restore it.

That's to bad Adam that was a nice running combine still.  I wish it had been closer it still would have been in my shed if I had bought it, not on top of a iron pile.  I hate to see them scrapped even if they don't run.  One less old Gleaner out there...a moment of silence please.

That would hurt me so bad I would probably have to buy the freaking thing form the scrapper and try to fix it. I just know a similar fate happened to my 1973 Dodge Charger SE.

Sorry Adam but I found this that you posted in March. Sad to hear the work went to the scrap yard. Now I'm all tore up, this is hurting me and it's not even my combine.

After reading this I felt alot worse.

As I posted earlier, I got the A2 running now, and most of the machine working.  The problem I have run into is that the raddle slip clutch slips/chatters terribly.  It looks like the raddle is froze up.  I have pulled all of the access doors off trying to get to it.  Is there any good way to work on it.  I have almost come to the conclusion that I am going to have to remove the header throat this summer to get to it.  Any suggestions?
