Although I can find what I call road or truck chains for my 24" tires I really want to purchase a good set of the old heavy duty, twisted link TRUE field chains! Do they still exits? If so where may I find them??

I hate to sound stupid, but do you run these chains on your tractor tires while doing field work? We have a coiple of tractors chained up around here for winter time use pulling the feeder wagon and doing loader work to help get through deep snow and ice, but I've never heard of field chains. The chains we use are readily available at farm and fleet stores, cenexes usually can get them, also, and most tire shops. Clear me up on this, maybe we are talking about the same things. Darrel

If I were you, I would look into chains for skidders (logging), they use tires common to tractors, just heavier numbers of plies. I just saw an add for chains in Idaho. The website is www.whitemountainchain.com

Road classified chains use smaller links for a smoother ride for use under "road speeds". Field chains use much heavier and twisted links and you don't dare travel more than 8-9 MPH and stay on the old Allis tractors! They also have much more grip and wear longer. Thanks to both posters of web links, been there and done that, neither list the heavy chains I'm yearning for.

how about peerless , winona minnesota. they are on the web but you may need to buy through a tsc, or such farm store. Just picked up a pair at the factory through the Ace hardware in Westby, WI. I got the ones for a 3010 JD. But there is also a pair on my AC 185. Could feed cows without them on my farm. JS

I sold a nice set of double link field style for $100. they where the wrong size for my Case. The best way to find a use set. Is to advertize in a farm paper. Like the wisconsin Farm Journal, or there is a farm paper out of Waupaca Wisconsin that seemed to be a good paper to advertize in. In your area you can put a free ad on WAXX 104 radio station. It will air during the farm show, in the morning.
