 Topic: Any Help On this Old Allis Chalmers Pedal Tractor?

Hey Everybody! My dad bought this off somebody, but knows nothing about it. He says it's from the 1950's, but after looking through pictures online, I think the 70's is more accurate. I don't know though. Can anybody help me and tell me what exactly my dad bought. I feel like this would be the best place to go.

Looks like a C or CA with the toolbox under the gas tank. C's and CA's were produced from 1940 to 1957. Looks like a real treasure to me.

Looking again I would say the bosses on the torque tube would indicate a CA which started production in 1950 and ended in 1957.

Thank you for the help. It does say CA. So it was made in the 50's. Is it rare or fairly common?

I don't get around much, but I've only seen one in person and have heard of a couple other people that owned one. Probably not a real high production model. I would add, do not touch the paint job. It probably would only devalue the tractor if it was painted.

ALLIS-CHALMERS CA, first year made 1954, $1,000-$1,500. There are some variations on the seat brackets and some have round axle housings on these but I don't know the varaiations that well. I'm sure that there are very few left originals with this good of paint. Nice find.

I watched a Case VAC peddle tractor with a 2 wheel trailer sell for $2,500 at the Miller Old Iron Sale in Brush, Colo maybe 5 years ago. Brought more then a lot of the big, running tractors! I think your CA might bring more then the estimates at the right sale.

Yeah Pat, I had a green one with a trailer and a red one. Neither survived my young tinkering phase. I took things apart back then, just couldn't put back together, maybe because I used a hammer.LOL.
Netsfan, i've never seen one of these CA pedal tractors. I know the CA tractor started production in 1951 and ended in 1957. fairly short run for that model, so the pedal tractor would probably be rare. It looks original also. I would not touch it.
If you want to sell it, I would definitely get several opinions on the best way to do this. I think you have something worth a good price. Of course, anything is only worth what someone who wants it is willing to pay. There are several on here who are into this, i'm sure they will give you some ideas on how to proceed. You may even find a buyer here. Just get feedback from several before making a decision. Very cool find, by the way!

I had one similar to this when I was a kid in the 50's. I don't remember the shift lever like shown in the picture. I think it was stationary. Mine didn't have a Snap Coupler hitch. And other things look a little different than what I remember, but it was a long time ago. I think that the one I had was earlier than this one and therefore probably more rare and more valuable. After I got married and moved out, my Mom sold it to a neighbor who was collecting these things back in the 70's. So I hope she got a good price out of it.

My Grandfather, Dad & uncle were Allis-Chalmers dealers in the late 30's thru mid 50's. I never remember seeing any of those at the dealership.
I wonder if only certain dealers could get them, or if the company did not promote them like they did the 1/16 scale models?
I can tell you they promoted the plastic WD & wagon model.
I remember seeing and playing with many of those models.

I have a Farmall 400 about that age. The hitch on some of those pedal tractors looked like a snap coupler. I have not seen many CA models

I seen the front half of a CA pedal tractor sell at a consignment auction about 3 years ago for $1000! There wasn't a fleck of paint on it and I didn't know what it was until the buyer picked it up and turned the grill towards me. Bet if it was a green one he would have paid about $3000 for it in that condition. Some of those green colectors have more money than sense!
