HD10 Steering Clutch

Hope someone can help

just bought a HD10 W serial number HD10W9543 (what yr is this?)      The steering clutch on the right side doesnt do anything,  it moves the linkage and looking through the rear access hole you can see it moving a Yoke but cant tell what is supposed to be going on from there.   What does this Yoke do,  something broke or out of adjustment?    There is no steering at all on the right side.

What is the best way to get to this to see what is going on and what does a person have to do to fix this?    I have a Service Manual but I dont see that it shows this Yoke Im talking about or what it is supposed to be doing.

If anyone can help me out with any information on this and what year this Dozer is I would apprciate it.   Dozer has a Baker Blade on it with a overhead hydraulic lift on it.

Dont know anything about these dozers - this one has been sitting outside for 30yrs  - a hot battery and she started right up but this steering problem has me stumped.

	The yoke is attached to the brake band, when the pedal is depressed it tightens brake band around clutch drum and stops or slows that track down to allow it to turn in that direction of applied brake. The clutch has to be activated first / then the brake for under power the brake will do nothing, to turn the machine or stop the machine. More than likely either the band is broken, threads into the yoke or stripped, band is worn out, or other mechanical problems. Pull the inspection cover over clutch and brake on both sides and check operation.

	The tractor appears to be a 1949.

	Ok -- I dont know if it is the same yoke I speak of, the one Im talking about looks like it pushes something in the center of the clutch drum and then there is one that has the brake band that is around the outside of the clutch drum. I will have to get the Tank off Im guessing and remove the box and plate that covers everything under the seat, not looking forward to all those rusted bolts but I guess if you buy old stuff you have to expect that part of it. 	The yoke could be ? The clutch pack is spring loaded cover plate that applies pressure to multi disc drive and driven plates inside the brake drum/clutch housing . Power is directed through teeth on these clutch plates to inner and outer splines within clutch. the throw out bearing pushes onto fingered casting that releases the spring pressuer to allow slippage. 	Im thinking it must be something to do with the Throw out bearing, got the tank off so at least I will be able to see what Im doing. I appreciate all your help

	The yoke will come out without removing the fuel tank. Remove the linkage to the top of the yoke and it should lift out. It has two ball bearings on opposite sides that push against the clutch pack. On my HD-7, one of the bearing's outer races broke and that created the same problem your having.
