I was wondering what you think would be a good older truck/trailer setup for hauling an HD11B dozer? I've been seeing some good deals on the following: Ford F8 (pretty old, but would sure look good), International 1700, Ford F600. Don't have much money so I'm watching older trucks for sale. I would want something safe, not just the minimum. I know little about hauling in this weight range.

I've got a 76' Freightliner Cabover, runs good, needs some work, it's not pretty.

Depending on what kind of trailer you are going to use, tag trailer or low boy 5th wheel.
Brakes are the one side and power to go is the other .
I used a tandem dump truck to pull tri-axle lowboy. My old White 6 cylinder gas engine with 5 X 4 Trany would do fine on back roads but was hard to maintain minimum speed on parts of freeway, GMC with 427 with RT613 pulled the 37,000# excavator but again the same problem of top speed- both with the tag trailer.
Air brakes are a must unless it's a new disc brake unit, trailer brakes are another . As whatever you use the DOT inspection will be required on both power unit and trailer, as well as Class A -CDL for the driver.

Weight range is set by axle bridging and load weight transfer . On a tag trailer figure you transfer 20% of load on pintle-hitch from trailer to the pull vehicle . in most areas the maximum load on a tandem axle is 34,000 IF the tires are rated for that . On a single axle truck 18,000 on the drive axle and rating of the front at mfg rate. A F8 would probably have a 8,000 front axle, then depending on tire size.
A highway tractor is limited to 12,000 maximum on steer axle. A single unit like a dump truck can go up to 18,000 on the steer. I moved my CAT D6-9U on my tri-axle with 3  single tire axle running 9.50x16.5 tires figuring the weight transfer to the truck , but never got stopped or scaled it to see if it was legal . Then with the 9' blade I never permitted it either so was lucky.

Unless you plan to move it a lot, it might be safer and cheaper in the long run to hire a local trucker witha lowbed, you are looking at up to 28-30,000#.

My 7G only goes at 23,000#, hired a hauler for the 120 mile one way trip and was just under $600.  I can't buy license or insurance that cheap and as we do not intend to ever move it again it worked out for us.
