I was running through my craigslist searches and found this (this isn't mine). Is it really possible it's factory or is it done well enough to look factory? Just wondering.

There was the option of an 'under the hood' muffler, exhaust came out by the generator.
Someone posted pictures awhile back..
Be nice to not WHACK the muffle and pipe of going under low branches !!!

The D-17 had the under hood exhaust option as well.
As DSeries4 says, the original style pipe doesn't come down
quite that far.

Look close at the pipe it appears to have an exstension on it. Different color near the top and bottom 1 1/2-2ft is different angle as well.
