FROM OUR EXPERIENCE.. on older systems they are like mother in laws.. each a little different. We always charge the older systems on a 90 degree day to no more than 225-250 on the high side and it should be less than 20 on the low side WITH THE SIDE SHEETS ON. Then it will be cold at the evaporator, the air flow will determine BTU cooling - Then at about 1500 RPM close the doors and turn the fan to low - watch the low pressure - it should go to 12-14 PSI and the thermostat should kick off the compressor. Anything abnormal, there is an issue .

most 7000‑series systems that were converted from R12 to R134a seem to run fine with roughly 70 to 80 percent of the original R12 charge. If you know the original spec, that usually gets you close. Curious if you’re still running the stock compressor and hoses, or if anything was changed during the conversion.

I usually put in around 3 pounds of R134a. The system cools well at that charge without flooding the compressor. Keep an eye on pressures as you fill.
