The WD that I saw this summer with a V8 had a plate between the motor and bellhousing about 1/2 or 5/8 thick that changed the bolt patterns. Basically the same way you put a Ford or Chevy motor in a Jeep.

The bell housing comes off the tranny on a WC I believe. Drill new holes in your V8 bellhousing to match your WC tranny.

you could probably install the v8 with automotive trans easier thatn adapting it to the allis, but it could be done either way.  Auto or manual.

I've seen a C with a smallblock Chevy in it, or should I say a small block Chevy with a C built around it.LOL! If that can be done, you should have no problem putting a V-8 in a WC.
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

ok if I do that then what about the side pulley and the bell housing are very much different such as the allis is deep for clutch and such the v8 is just the clutch by looking I may a little slow at this and I dont want to tear up an antique like this real bad next is if I take the allis tranny out and then spline the turbo 400 or 350 to the rear end of the tractor will that work?

Thats what I thought so how much did you have to widen because this is what I want to do its just a lawn ornament sitting there and this will be good what about your mounts were are they on the front of the 455 or on the side? And the tranny did you just run a new mount accross the frame?

A V8 in a WC sounds like a fun project. I stopped a little short of that with a six pack.

I had to widen it adout 4 inches. I welded the same size channel on the outside of the original frame rails and then cut out the old rail in the area it needed to be wider. I then tapered the ends of the new rail to the old and laid a piece over the whole thing. The mounts are on the block to inside of the frame. The back of the trans is bolted tight to the adapter I made.  The adapter takes place of the trans tailshaft housing and has a bearing to suport the coupling and pinion/tractor trans mainshaft. When I get home tonigth I will try to post some pics

Since the chevy wants to run 3 or 4 grand for power, likely one of the two transmissions is left in 2nd gear for a about a 2:1 speed reduction so that 3 to 4 grand speed goes to the second transmission in about the same speed range as the original engine.

" this is what I want to do its just a lawn ornament sitting there "  If its just going to be a lawn ornament, then just set the engine in on the rails and forget it... Would save lots of time trying to make the adapter plates and mounts. lol

Not a WC, but one of the cleanest installations I've seen. This tractor could drive up behind you and you could barely hear it. It was whisper quiet. Also note the hydraulic pump on the pulley location.

This was at Hutch a couple of times, and at Almelund this past summer. We talked to the owner, and he uses the tractor regularly, and drives it to shows within 20-30 miles. It's a very nice tractor.

Thanks for sharing that GB. It is a super clean install. Lot of time and effort. Very well done. Governor? What would you get a governor from? I would imagine they would have some sort of industrial application that one could get a working governor from.
Also, I noticed the exhaust manifolds seem to be flipped over. I was wondering if that would work. I want to put an Inline 6 in the parts C that I have. I know where there is an old derrick hoist engine that would have governors.
I didn't do it! It was a short, fat, tall, skinny guy that looked like me!

You can still buy belt driven governors. Last I looked Valu-Bilt carried them. But they may not now.

A lot of combines were powered by truck engines, especially the chevy straight sixs.  Most of them had belt driven governors.  Old L and C model gravelys did as well as an option.

I knew there had to be a source. As far as getting the right RPMs for power, a chevy or Ford 6 in the 292/300 inch range would probably need around 4,000 rpm to make the most power, though both are strong on the bottom too. I would think a V-8 would definitely need a higher RPM to make the most HP.
I'm not an expert when it comes to the way the governor works. I know the flyweights work with the engine speed to keep the RPMs constant, and the RPMs are regulated by the linkage position and the amount of tension in the spring. I'm just not really clear as to how to set one up or get the right one for the speed you want.

http://www.valu-bilt.com/product_info.php?product_id=7786&item_number=A%201005925 pricier than I remembered but that can be the basis for further searching if you need a new one.

DREAM, the throttle linkage has a spring to pull the throttle plate open with that spring tension varied by the hand throttle. The governor works on centrifugal force that when the engine speeds up the weights move out and are coupled to counteract that spring tension to close the carburetor throttle. Same thing happened on a steam engine. Often there is a second weaker spring to dampen the response so the automatic control doesn't oscillate.
