 Topic: Ohio covered Bridge - that still stands

Here is a story that some might find of being a good read . Written by a young lady for a Scholarship - and tracing the history of a company over many years .

Thanks for the link Coke. This bridge is about 15-20 miles from where I live. We have a few covered bridges left in this area. She did a great job with her story, and it's refreshing to see a youth taking an interest in such things.

I thought that was for horses to cross without getting excited? Guess I was wrong, for strength and to protect from elements.

sawa PBS thing about one covered bridge,a town rebuilt after a flood destroyed it..
I think I heard they covered them to keep the rain OFF the deck, to prevent rotting

Great article glad to see that people are still interested in the old bridges From what I recall it was to protect the deck

There is another covered bridge about 20 miles from the one in the article, and it was heavily damaged when a large truck drove over it. While they were making repairs, the bridge collapsed. The county salvaged all of the wood they could and rebuilt it. Here's a video of the rebuild which you will find interesting.
Also here's a story from the county engineer about the rebuild and history.
