I'm thinking I'd like to checker and inlay a gun stock. I'm thinking of buying a cheaper gun to practice on.

Have you guys done any of this?

What did you buy for checkering the stock? I see Midway USA offers a beginners package for doing this.

As far as inlaying goes, I'm thinking of using some mother of Pearl. Any thing else I could use that you guys can think of.

Any form of inlay will look good in small amounts on a gunstock, if your stock has been heavily oiled in the past may be troublesome to get inlay to remain glued down.

My mom used to checker and work on gun stocks. She just quit one day and never did it again. She probably still has the tools but she hasn’t used them in 30 years. If I could post pics I’d show a 22 she did for me.
I hope you so this and show us your work.
I sometimes see 10/22 or similar stocks for cheap cause someone installed a composite or laminate. I see SKS stocks but assume they’re some soft wood and not good practice.

Check out Brownells.They have everything you would need for this type of thing.
