Maybe work for your possums.

They are protecting youWink, cause I have read it on www so you know it's true. There favorite food is ticks. Ticks like hibernating under bark, so they are trying to help. LOL

I have read that but got no idea how true it is. An I don't really want to deal with the overgrown rat every time I want a stick of wood ether.

So next question, you had pets that can get in the wood pile?  Cause that would limit what you could do.

I used to have a little wire haired mutt named Biscuit. She kept possums, coons n such out of the yard. I sure miss her.

Not Much I don't know about Opossums. Wrote a term paper on them in Highschool.
They come up here to eat the outdoor cat food when it gets dark. One well placed shot with a 22 puts them in their place.   Way out back for the Coyotes and Buzzards

I always had trouble with possums in the hen house every winter when we still had chickens. Them dang critters would spoil my Sunday morning breakfast by getting to the eggs before me.

Problem was at the time was the choice I had of weaponry. The anti gun nurse wouldn't let me own a .22. I would be browsing for .17 at the local Wally world and the salesman would say he could have me approved by the time we got done shopping, but the nurse would grab me by the ear and pull me outa thar.

So all I had at the time was a 12 gauge (it was grandfathered in as I had that gun previously) or a garden weasel. The shotgun kinda made a mess of things at point blank range and after about the third possum the garden weasel broke. Wasn't designed for possums I guess. A friend finally felt sorry for me and gave me High Standard .22 that I plan to give to Thad someday.
I still gots my A/C but it's clear out in the barn now.

I use live traps here,---kinda a pain, but real successful as possums are quite dumb and will wobble right into the traps! Use anything for bait, cat food, eggs, ear of corn, piece of meat well seasoned, etc.
If you have a half grown guy, look for 12 more that same size, as they have 13 per litter!! happy trappin!! thanks; ac fleet

Got a possum problem of my own. We inherited a tomcat earlier in the year and for the most part was an indoor city cat. Started letting him go outside at night to get him accustomed to the great outdoors here in the woods. Don't know what happened and his conversations with the other varmint friends he has met up with but he started thinking the litter box was a mere suggestion. Well his indoor squatting days are over. Nothing will convince you more than the wife screaming about cat piss in her boots.

So I made the SOB a box on the back porch on a table with a specifically designed cat heating pad ($25) so he won't immediately freeze to death. Well his food is out there too. Has to be, eats more that I do, about a #15 cat. He has left me some rats and mice he has assassinated.

Now we have a possum problem eating the cat food. He is a big sucker too. Waylayed him with a broom several times but give it 2 days and he will be back. Gonna have to get the artillery out. Sons ex had a pet possum, actually they aren't to bad as pets. This one ran off and joined the other possum thugs that roamed the area.

I like John's suggestion.  That possum just needs to go for a little ride.  Wink

I have one of those pet heating pads under the barn cat's bed.  Hard telling how many hours she ha spent on it.
