Cleaning out a pond

   When using a hoe on the HD4 - it transfers all the weight to the rear sprocket bearings . Broke a couple axles on mine along with having both rear cases machines as outboard bearings also went bad and wallowed the bearing race bore . 
 Now if someone needs a hoe I still have the one that came off my HD5 - it's a AC hoe 2 lever control with 14 ft dig.

	Bought this h4/crawler/loader awhile back. didn't really do a good job of checking it over. the right side housing was bad. ouch-expensive. Randall gave me some advice on replacing the steering clutches and brake bands and put the good casing on I bought with new bearings /seal on the right final drive. Took awhile but finally got it back and running. Had a oil leak on hyd spool. Removed it and rebuilt the spool so it doesn't leak anymore. Do have an oil leak on the inside of the upper frame work. not sure how I'm going to get to it. bought couple upper rollers for it. tranny works very well with no leaks so far. fuel pump went out so I have to keep it over 1/2 full so it will run. going to put a electric fuel pump on it. the left side works well. not quite as strong as the left but good for now. it will spin the tracks when digging. I run it in 1st gear all the time. just to old to get in a hurry. on the dash there is a large hole I am thinking it might be a proofmeter. is that correct. if so is it electric or run off a cable drive. The back hoe 1 have is a 1961 farmall 340. it is an original relic back hoe as there is no pto. probably not to many of these around. runs great. as long as the ground has some moisture it digs fine. real dry dirt it struggles some. I live on a 30 acre place just outside of town. lots of critters to enjoy plus the quiet when out operating my equipment. retirement at its best to me. its not suppose to rain for a few days with the sun coming out each day. hi in the 60s so if I'm lucky ill get it cleaned out this week. take care Norm

	We are getting steady rain here in eastern ky. Hopefully you can get back to work on the pond in a couple of days. hang in there Norm.

	I bet that was way more fun than hiring it done would have been. Always glad to hear stories about old allis stuff being put to good use. Thanks Darrel

	Finally fixed my h4. found a clevis pin had came out on the clutch arm. Got into the pond. The silt is about 4 ft deep. Removed about 10 percent yesterday after I used the backhoe to dig a channel through the dam so I could use the h4. The old h4 performed well. I managed to get down to clay before I started digging. was surprised at how well it was going. got a lot of rain last night so may be delayed a bit but I'm still working at it. Being retired ive got time I think. Put an ad on craigslist for someone to do the job. never got a reply. some one with something like a 953 cat could have cleaned it out in 8 hours. Anyway the old h4 ran pretty well. Only problem is some times it seems I have two left feet. The old drill seargant used to tell me that years ago. Have a nice day. Norm
