WEll i bought a CASE 530 backhoe and motor is locked up. Pulled it apart and bought a new kit for overhaul. Book says the piston rings should be .020 end gap ?? and they are ??  New liners standup .010 above the deck, so did the original. Lip is .250 and groove is .240 deep.  I dont know the spec, but these sound large for the small Allis i am use to .... I guess this is normal for a Case ??  Looking for reassurance before i start assembly tomorrow.
Like them all, but love the "B"s.

Rings should be inserted into the sleeves and verified for the .020 end gap or filed to that, pushing them square with the head of a piston will true them to the bore, they do not have to be on a piston for checking.

As to liner height, Cummins liners sit at .060 above the block deck and have a lip thickness of .380, your specs sound as a normal for that engine to me as all engines are different.

Are the sleeves dry or wet?  Do they require o-rings for a water jacket seal?  If they are a wet sleeve lubricate them and the block bore with Crisco shortening or some other organic for lubricant, do NOT use motor oil.  I also put a very narrow(1/16") bead of black silicone under the lip for a upper deck seal on engines with wet sleeves.

If they are dry sleeve, put a heater to the engine block I use a salamander type day of installation, and put the sleeves in a deep freezer overnight, dry any frost quickly and set them to the bottom of the bore before they take a set rapidly.

Sorry for the typo omission, On the wet sleeves lube the o-rings not the entire sleeve.  Make sure the upper land of the block for the sleeve is very dry and very clean prior to setting either wet or dry.

cylinders are wet. i have dropped each in the hole and they go smoothly without r-igns. the .020 was bothering me. but original look to be the same.. thanks for the reassurance....... i had wondered about sealant on the upper land of the sleeve. i will do that.
