Faded Monarch Butterfly on Ironweed
For about three days before these photos were taken, I was seeing several Monarchs that looked much more vivid than this one; however, they would never be still more than a second; and, I never had a camera; and, when I would go fetch a camera and return, they would be nowhere in sight.
After photographing this one, I don't think I have seen another since.

About penny size, these are the first to be seen in the spring and the last to be seen in the fall.

Monday I noticed a few Monark butterflies at farm. Turned out were a couple dozen by some milk weed and morningglory. I'd planned to mow those weeds but will wait until monarks leave. I can't remember when had that many, know it's been a longtime.

Female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly Papilio glaucus
Contrary to most animals, the female of the species is much more impressive than the male; plus, females can be either yellow or black; males are always yellow.

Male Eastern Tailed Blue Butterfly on Eastern Red Cedar
These little dudes are tiny; smaller than a dime. The top side of the males' wings are a bright blue and the females' are a purplish-brown slate color. Like many of the smaller butterflies, it is nigh impossible to capture them with their wings spread; the instant they light, they close their wings together, making them near impossible to spot.

Rustic Sphinx Moth (Manduca rustica)
This thing was pretty big.
I read that they are quite rare; I don't ever remember seeing one before.
I also read that they are often mistaken for Hummingbirds and can fly and hover just like a Hummingbird.
Their larvae is a Horned Tomato Worm, looking much like a Tobacco Worm with that fearsome long curved stinger; I read that they can decimate a row of Tomato plants in a single night.

Black Female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly on Ironweed
The majority of these butterflies are yellow; however, once in a while, one of the females will be black.
I was mowing Henry's horse lot and saw this rare Butterfly checking out the plentiful Ironweeds beside the big spring; I immediately put the mower in road gear and headed to the house to get the camera, fully expecting it to have disappeared by the time I got back, but there it was and I got these pictures to prove it.
