Was at a nice little museum here in central IL today and saw this picture on the wall of old ag equipment, and I have no idea what I am looking at. Looks like two Allis Chalmers WDs/45s hooked together, pulling a combination plow/planter (with A/C on the support bar). Thought I'd share and see what ya'll thought.

Photo caption reads:

"Coultas Plownter -- a machine invented by Bob and Dick Coultas in the early 1950s"

Planter units mounted on the plow.--- NOT a success  either. Ground gotta be worked after plowing and before planter comes along.  There had been several attempts at doing this back in time. --It's also not accurate in row widths, making it hard to combine the crop.

Where I am at in KY, it is becoming common to plow and plant at the same time.
I made new shoes for one of the plow/planters last week.
It works up a strip about 12" wide x 6" deep, then plants tobacco or hemp at the same time.
I am also, working on a seed plow/planter. It is not getting good seed to soil contact.
It is moving to much dirt out of the row and I have got to design/make something to move the dirt back in place.
