Does anyone have any experience using these old carter disc type grain cleaners, or I guess the technical name is grain separator? I have one that I bought at an auction probably 20 some years ago, and I guess that they work good for haybet barly seed, and we want to try it on some. I've done some internet searching, and can't find much. Can't even seem to find a manual on ebay. I don't even really know where to start with this thing. A couple numbers on the data plate are 5856, and 15180NJ. I know that it's very old, but hopefully I can get some use out of it. Thanks, Darrel

Darrel, I personally don’t have any experience with one but a good friend of mine has one and has a fair bit of experience with it. I’ll get ahold of him and see if he’d be willing to visit with you about it.

There was guy here spent most of his life cleaning seed grain with a Carter Disc cleaner as part of his set up. A cranky old cuss , by now. Lost the use of left hand in a bucket elevator at 10 or 12 years old helping grandpa. But don't let that fool you he could still pick up a 100 sack of seed with the one hand and the stub.

He had 2 kids move to Idaho, so he is closer to you. But you would probably have to drive over and kidnap him. I call him once or twice a year just to bug him.  So if you need to talk to somebody I can ask .

Darrel in ND, here’s a YouTube video link about a “Carter Day 2133 Disc Separator.” Is it what you’re describing? If so, guy narrating video does a great job explaining machine & how it’s designed to function.

Here’s another video displaying a Carter 1815 disc separator. It is only a short video with no info. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=scEoKltEOf4&pp=ygULQ2FydGVyIDE1MTjSBwkJxQoBhyohjO8%3D
