12 Volt, Negative Ground system.
Positive battery terminals to the front in the box, they hookup Pos to Pos on the Batt's and that cable then goes to large Terminal on the Starter Solenoid. Negative side usually has 2 cables; 1 from each Batt's Negative terminal to the 1/2" fender mount bolt in lower front of left fender.

My suggestion is to replace the two batteries with one (size) 4DLT battery. They are heavy to drop in, but I think the big single battery is way better that the 2-battery original equipment setup.

A better option would be a group 31. This has become the standard battery for many things, therefore it it lower priced than many other special sizes. Around here they are just =/- $100 at the national brad battery shops. Even the low grade ones will be 950 CCA which is plenty for a 301 diesel. The top end ones can be about 1200CCA.

If it was fun to pull in LOW gear, I could have a John Deere.
Real pullers don't have speed limits. If you can't make it GO... make it SHINY |

Right now it only has one battery, and when it is warm that one battery will start it, I was just looking at returning it to the original configuration, the current battery is old and needs replacing. thanks.
