  Here is pictures of the guards I was talking about. Overall size is about 5" top to bottom and about 1" wide on metal part. Thanks, Gregg

I have ford guards on my #7 pulltype they fit fine. You might see if ford or anybody else that makes them that interchange with Allis have the style guards that your talking about

Those pictures are really small ! Is that the only style guard on the mower ? I have never seen a guard like that.

Yes , those are the only ones on the bar with the sickle knives on the top side facing down on these guards along with the hold downs. They cut really easy with no clogging up like the pointed guards do. I only need 2 more to have enough.

Those are the open faced guards, we had em on our 80r, gopher mounds wont stop em, will cut anything but grass, they dont work worth two hoots in grass as the thin stems go inbetween the knife edge and the ledger plate.

Those are strange units. Am I seeing a sickle section attached to a guard? or is it a sickle sized ledger plate attached to guard? any more details on how these work? I was under the impression cuttman used these to cut grass.

Found out on another forum, they are called pea guards, I used them on my old 80r till last year when the gear box cracked and I bought a used one with regular rock guards on it. Had nothing but trouble with it, so I am replacing them with the pea guards next week. We use it to cut orchardgrass and timothy and did a fine job, the longer rock guards cause it to clog up and I only can run in first gear compared to second gear with the pea guards on. Using a WD45 to cut with. Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.

cuttman, if your sharp sickle lays flat on rock guards with good ledger plates, it will cut orchard grass and Timothy much better than pea guards. They were designed to harvest peas, before modern harvesting equipment of present day.I have New Holland, double guards on ours and it will keep up with any sickle mower. HTH Tracy Martin

ford called these "cut free guards" and they where designed for cutting matted/damp/ specialty crops,
you could mix them with the heavy duty regular guards, they where sometimes used near the inner shoe to help prevent cloging at that point, and they where suposed to help keep the mower clear at head lands
