I ran acroos this picture of a model G. Is this an accurate representation? why did they build one like this? ive never see a tractor like this...

What is questionable to you? Looks factory to me. Olny thing i see is the optional weight on front and oppional dules wheels.

I should of read it closer. They were made mainly for cultivating and that they were great at that. The cultivators were mounted in front of the the operator for visibility so he didnt halfto look behind him self all the time.

But they wernt very good at drawbar work because of the very light front end with all the engin weight in back. Pull too much your rideing wheelies.

Well actually they were kinda of a all around tractor they made lots of implements for them.Like several types of planters, several types of plows, cultivators, sickle mowers, rotery mowers, Potato hillers, and some small pull type implements. Also some people make there own impements.

There have been a couple other tractor makes with the same layout since the Allis G for the same applications, truck garden cultivation primarily. The concept lets the engine weight provide traction weight while giving almost perfect visibility for cultivating the crop.
With the engine out back of the drive wheels, when the engine hits the ground, the torque lifts the drive wheels and the tractor doesn't roll on over. The early Fordson's had a reputation for rolling on over ("conventional" front engine tractors that weren't heavy enough for the gear ratio) squashing the operator.
Rear engines in Indy and Formula race cars seem to do quite well though VW, Porsche, and Corvair road cars tended to slide a little wide when cornered hard with drivers not exerienced with them.

I would agree with Burgie they go any where from 2500 and up for a running one without implements as i understand.

abbaschild there are a couple of them in Las Animas. I drove by a place a small truck farm south of the hwy and they are used daily.

Miller Tire has name brand ones for about $300 each for rears and Tucker Tire has them for $300 a pair for rears. I don't know the quality of these but they are readily available.

In our area that was a GREAT SELLER. I said a few months back it was the best cultivating tractor made. Didn't cost a lot either - 1948 $ 680. In fact, when we sold them as cultivating units and they would have a lot of use I would suggest that the customer purchase one for each job. More efficient than changing implements since some were "difficult to change". Besides the tractor cost less that $ 1,000 then.
Not now though.
