Very nice unit! I had not seen one mounted on a 17 yet. You did real good. And it looks like it does the job, even after all these years too!

I stumbled across this picker when I bought an older 3-point fertilizer spread from an add on Craigslist. Turns out the man had other treasures too. He bought it new along with a series 3 diesel D17. Thankfully he kept it under a lean too all these years and still had all the mounts for the tractor, engine shields and manuals. He didn't want to part with the D17 diesel though, but I had a 17 around to use.
The difference with these pickers is that they have a husking bed on each side, where the older one's only had snapping rolls. This is a model #190, from what I've learned there was also a model #150 and #170 that look very similar.
As far as noise level, it didn't seem overly loud to me, but you have moving parts all around you, and probably after an entire day of picking it may seem noisy.

Lots of memories of the D17 with the 190 picker on it. Only bad memory was the day I sucked a skunk up the right side. Mine had the super snoot on it too. Sold it many years ago to a member on here. But brings back a lot of good memories. I always called it the machine to hide a tractor. It and the D17 never back down on whatever the yield or load. Enjoy the outfit!

Great find! I have a picker that looks nearly identical. If you plan on doing some more picking I would get a snoot for the radiator(I think I have a spare if your interested) and the air cleaner cap with the screen on it.
These are a quieter picker to run vs other brands such as New Ideas. I think part of the reason is theses don't seem to have as many drive chains. Very dirty to run but I still enjoy it.

allischalmerguy we switched from the wide front to the narrow front every fall, as soon as the #17 picker came off the wide front went back on. Lotta years ago.

We had 3 D17s when I was a kid. 1 narrow front gas model especially for the New Idea picker. What a DIRTY job!

We ran a new 170 picker on our 1954 wd45 until Dad bought a new D17 series IV. It was wide front and he bought a narrow front and we switched them out to pick corn and when the picker came off the wide front went back on. Wasn't a real hard job. Got a used E Gleaner and soon went to all shelled corn a few years later.

The shield around the muffler is an original. I think its intended for the newer oval shape mufflers, because the guy I purchased it from had a series 3, but it doesn't look like he ever used it.
I had to put on a narrow front end and don't ever plan on putting the wide front on again, in fact I sold it.
