    Posted: 02 Jan 2015 at 11:29am
My agco dealer usually is very good at coming up with obscure parts...so this in no way is a spite to them, I am however, hoping someone can help me find the part number for the regulating ball and spring that goes inside the oil pump on the G149 engine for a D14 tractor. I dont have a parts book with me, and am on the road trying to come up with the part number so I can get it ordered from AGCO...any help would be MUCH appreciated!
THanks

According to the parts book, I don't see any pressure relief built into the oil pump.

The picture shows no ball or spring, in either the G149 book, or the D14 book.  Since I have yet to tear into my D14, I cannot help more than that.

im seeing the parts manual does not list it...I can say for certain, my 14 had it in it, I just disassembled it, and the service manual specifically talks about inserting it with the small end of the spring toward the ball...the spring is tapered.... Dang...hopin to figure out what to do..just a thought...were the B C pumps different in this regard? its possible a B pump had been used on my tractor?

There is no pressure relief ball or spring in the oil pump on the D14 engine. AC moved the ball and spring to the front side of the camshaft. There will be a small square cover on the timing cover. The ball and spring will be behind there.

Im looking back through old posts and the concensus was the D14 did not have the spring and ball inside the pump..mine DID. it also had correct oil pressure...this is my D14 that went through the fire...thats the only reason i even took the pump out..I am putting new gaskets in it and the ORIGINAL ALLIS SERVICE MANUAL says to inspect the ball and spring for wear..so i did...My spring is VERY worn and needs replaced..Now this dilemma...

And yes Matt, it does have the one up on the cam gear...I dont know what to say but it had it in the pump too..do you think I would be safe to not run one??

I just looked at the illustration for the Camshaft, and yup, it sure is there, a very slight design change over the B, and C engine, so it may well be, that you have a pump from a B or C in you D14.  Not having had a 14 apart, it is entirely possible they fit, you know how Allis parts do that.

You only need one pressure relief, so long as it functions properly.  You can run any number more than that, only the one opening at the lowest pressure will ever actually do anything, the others will never open, and regulate the pressure.

If you ever have a need to access a D-14 Service Manual or Parts Catalog while you are on the road, here are links to on-line Manuals:

Thanks! I have used those pdfs a time or two from grandpastractor site. The owner of that site is also a member of the forum, a great guy too. Anyhow, the baffling part of this deal was the service manual for the D14 says to install the spring and ball...but the parts manual does not show it...hmmm..oh well...thats life. I am gonna go with the what my Allis Service manual says I believe..thanks to all for chiming in

The D14 does have the ball and spring in the pump, at least on the early models. I took 2 of them apart and they both had them in. The part # for the spring is 207839 and the ball is 905359. Same as on the B, C, & CA.
And yes they both had the 5/8" ball and 2 springs at the end of the camshaft. LOL Bob

Just looked in my D-15 Parts Catalog ( dated March 1966 )

It also shows the Ball and Spring inside the front end of the Rotor.

Ball 905359 ( Edit- info from Hardware Section: Chrome Steel 5/16" )

Spring 207839

There is no 'prior to', or 'effective with' Serial Number break,

so I would read this that all D-15 149 and 160 Engines have the above 'ball and spring' in the Oil Pump.

Also has Plunger 229592 and Spring 228160 at Gear End of Camshaft.

Guys, thanks to all! I was able to get the part ordered through Dittamore implement here in Effingham Illinois...My service manual did call for it like I said, and apparently there are MANY conflicting reports on this issue!! My tractor IS going back together with it installed as my gut told me to do..thanks to all
