I have a 704560 (front half 7045, rear half 7060 ps).  Neither had run in maybe 3 years, so I spliced them together.  7045 ran great when parked, and 60 had strong trans.  When I put them together, it didn't run as well.  I used it to pull an irrigation rig to the field and back, then to another farm.  It had a bad miss, and a lot of white smoke, I assumed from the missing cylinder.  I drained the fuel and replaced with fresh with a injector cleaner.  Still ran poor.  I assumed a bad injector or two, so I replaced those.  Still just as bad.
Now for your guesses.  I found out the problem today (I think!).  It is not fuel related.
Remember:
1)ran when parked!  we have all heard that, but I am the one who parked it.
 2)Sat for around 3 years
 3)We  also have a 7030, 8050, and I had a D21 puller at that time.

Mouse nest in the pump causing bad injection in at least one cylinder accompanied by an injector line leaking from having almost rusted through due to another mouse nest.

When I started it after the new injectors, I had to crack the lines.  That's when I heard the louder than normal valves.  One must have had extra clearance I figured.  Today I took off the valve cover, put the engine at TDC and wiggled the rockers.  I didn't have my manual there, or a feeler guage, but thought I would be able to feel one that made that much noise.  I sure did.  One lifter had excessive play, mostly due to A MISSING PUSH ROD!  I remember bending one on a tractor once (I think the puller), this must be where the replacement came from!  I actually think I borrowed it from the 7030, as that tractor is never used.  When to 7045 went down, I maybe took it from this tractor to replace the 7030's.  Not sure exactly how it went missing, but it sure is gone.  I bet it will have a little more power now.
