I'm Retired!!!!!!! January 31st was my last day at work after over 34 years with USG Corporation. Now I can start devoting more time to my Allis Chalmers hobby and my antique trucks. I grew up on the family farm in Western New York but my job has taken me all over country. I'm currently living in the Chicago area. My plan is to eventually move back to the farm and work on the 20 or so AC tractors that I have collected over the last 25 years plus my Dad's tractors we used on the farm. Additionally I have a bunch of old trucks, mainly Brockways.
Looking forward to being a more active participant on the Forum and meeting some of you at shows and events that I will now have time to attend. You probably heard about the snow in Chicago today. When the wind dies down I will be getting out my AC 712H with a snow blower to clean up the driveway. Wish I had a loader on the D-17!!!!!! |

I retired in 04 put up 27 years on that job. I started working at the age of five on my dad cotton farm, picking cotton hoeing and chopping. Pulling corn feeding animal. We saved all our seed except the cotton seed, we used them to feed to cattle. I wanted to farm full time all my life, but we do the best with what we have to do with. So after college I got a job with the Gov. and farm part time. So in 04 I was bless to retire, and finally , I am a full time farmer. I am 55 years old.
God has carried me when I did not no that I was being carried.

Retirement is great -- hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Don't know how I got everything done when I was working. Best part is you get to what you want to - when you want to.

Bob, Congratulations. I hope you enjoy retirement as much as I have. Retired in '03 after 40 years. Still do some work related to my experience.
So where in western NY? My wife is from Westfield in Chautauqua County. Her brother still grows grapes there. I have three AC's bought there and brought to Maine. Unfortunately, the original owner of my '50 B just passed away a week ago. I also have a '53 CA and a '57 D-14 from Westfield farms. Bob@allisdowneast |

Congratulations and welcome to the forum.
I once heard a fellow say everyone needs three things:
1) Someone to love.
2) Something to do.
3) Something to look forward to.
It looks like you have all three. Enjoy. Edited by Osage_Orange - 02 Feb 2011 at 10:39pm |

Why is there never time to do it right the first time, but always time to go back and fix it?

Hey Bob, enjoy your retirement. I've sure enjoyed mine, never had a boring moment in 19 years. The only downside is I'm over the hill and half down the other side. Hope I have a few years yet. Leaving for Florida the middle of the month to spend about 5 weeks trying to warm up. Have fun.

I 10 ago. When I told another guy on the job that I was retiring in a couple of days, thinking that perhaps my wife had a long honey do list, he asked me what the first thing that I was going to do when I didn't have to go to work. You should have heard him when I replied that we were loading up and heading to Florida and taking in the Florida Fly Wheels show.
When people ask me, what do you do now that your retired? My reply is, I do what I want to do when I want to do it. Bob in joy your retirement. Dusty

Congrats on retirement. I cant wait till I get to retire and at the age of 28 and all the changes in retirement ages and there not going to be social security, I'm guessing I got at least another 45 years to wait for it....lol

Andrew -- when I was you age I thought that retirement was wasted on the old folks. That around 30, you should get 5 yrs off, then go back and work as long as you can. Now that I am one of those old folks, don't feel quite so strong about that position -LOL.

Congratulations Bob!
I am looking forward to that happy date for myself. I already have that many tractors, but guess I need some trucks to catch up! By time I get there, I hope to have at least a few more tractors!
Sorry you missed out on the Janesville auction, but there should be plenty more to pick from this spring!

After 40 years with company they went out of business so i guess I retired, but went to college to get a Degree in Building Inspection rather than sit.
Got a job as Building / Facilities manager at charter school and that went under.
Drove tanker-truck for last 4 years and retired at end of June.. Well kind of
So looking ahead to watching the grass grow and going fishing and cycle riding this year after I get the grass mowed. Then last year seems there was a dump truck setting here that needed a driver for couple months, might do that again also.

Bob, I saw in your post that you have a bunch of Brockway trucks. I was just wondering if you have been to the Brockway get together in August of each year that is held in Cortland, NY home of the Brockway truck. If you would like an info package, send me an email wioth contact information and I will arrange to have it sent to you. Last year they had around 120 Brockway trucks at the show. It is still growing and a museum is being built here to house Brockway trucks and other items to include tractors and agricultural equipment. rbkarn@dishmail.net Roger
