several years ago zimmerman tractor in Versailles MO had one, i bought the clutch assembly off of it, supposedly the engine was good. however, having been through one of these engines, i would suggest looking for a 16000H which came in 16 tractors after 1962. you can still get kits for these engines, 16000 you CAN NOT. pistons, rods, crank and bearings were changed and will not swap between the two. outside, they are nearly identical

I appreciate the help I was told this was a 1964 tractor I didn't get a chance to check the block today to see what series engine it has. doesn't anyone know the best place to find parts for these engines? also is there a way to retro fit a newer style engine into these tractors

lots of places have kits for the 844's not really common but can still be had. all are 844's 1600H and 16000 same as a 21000, 25000 etc. just different upgrades for power levels. 20000 series have turbos and were in hd21's 16/s did not until series B's if it is a 64 it should have a 16000H engine and you can still get parts. a 16000 engine is from 58-62 first style direct injection after buda lanova engines and has a 3 valve head not 4 valves like later engines any of those motors COULD be swapped in but the different accessories and drives could be problematic to change over and you dont want to way over power your driveline with a newer 25000 engine (400 plus hp) unless your crank or block is junk, why not just overhaul it? you may get lucky and find and engine but do you really know what your getting? and those engines are big and heavy and would not be a 1 person job to swap
