old style monolithic powertrain design. you have to pull the motor to put in a clutch. not until the 50's with the HD15's 11's, and 9's did they start unit construction which allowed clutch replacement without pulling the engine.

AC - HD5 of 1947 vintage had enough clearance to remove components without disassembling full tractor .
With a 3-71 Detroit it seems they would have also left room to service things . Edited by Coke-in-MN - 13 Oct 2014 at 7:15am |

Master manual says Engine needs removing... Requires a 1 ton hoist, a ten foot lengtrh of 1/2" cable or 3/8ths" chain one motor stand or sufficient wood blocks, ample supply of cleaning fluid and at least 6 containers of holding bolts ca, screws etc.
Disconnect battery, remove air cleaners, on late unites the precleaners extend up thru the hood and they do not need to be removedremove hood and front fenders and grill and bumper, drain cooling system, remove radiator, shut off fuel, disconnect all lines rods and wire, engage clutch, remove two plates on spacer and work through the two openings. Remove four spacer to engine capscrews from inside spacer remove 12 capscrews holding master clutch assembly to flywheel. Remove 10 capscrews that holds spacer to engine- 6 removed from outside and four removed thru inspection holes.
Remove bolts from outer end of front motor syupport. Raise outer end of motor support with a bar and remove shims... Caution: in rebuilding, these shims must be installed in their origional positions in order not to alter the motor alignment. Engine can now be removed by attaching chain to hoisting brackets. lifted slightly and moved forward and lifted out....

Take pictures as you dis-assemble, so you can put it back together when you get the parts. Everything snowballs bigger, except time and memory...
