Cry Don't bother purchasing the repair manual-makes out a easy lab coat affair. Be prepared to meet hell
However a somewhat helpfull posting of the clutch is here
 Suggestions--buy metalic discs not fiber
tools needed-rachet wreches a must. small power full magnet archeded on a solid wire
powerfull direct flash light. Above lifting device(Cluth heavy)
Hard part in removing-- Release bearing push rod must be removed by unlossing adjusting bolt at out outside near track.Push release bearing back.
Support the front and back tractor off ground--tracks able to turn
Now comes the hellish part. Removing the  SHAFT RETAINER LOCK. Took me days to get the sucker off. A ture hell hole housing. Notchs help slide shaft backwards. Slide shaft to far inwards-only bring back is a hooked magnet
Installation
MUST:  before inserting into tractor well housing, SLIPE THE SHAFT RETAINER LOCK SPRING, onto the clutch hub just having the pin half over the pin hole
Splined Shaft slides in from the tranie into the clutch hub. Severial holes on the shaft must line up with the single hub hole were the shaft retainer lock pin fits.
IMPORTANT: Presure plate and Cluth hub with the discs must be 100% aliened or the shaft will not slide in.If not aliegned--forget it.
 Hopefully this helps-Cheers :^)

When it came time to repair the clutches on my D6 - it seems the pinion support bearing needed to be replaced also - and - found it easier to push machine onto trailer - haul down to CAT dealer and sell it to them , lick my wounds from loss , drive to independant dealer and pick up HD4 machine with a backhoe .
After replacing rod and main bearings on D6 , replacing the transmission, replacing U-joints,replacing front ideler, replacing track and sprockets with D5 updates - I found the machine had cost me twice what i had paid for it- first and last CAT machine.

Steering clutchs on 9Us or D6Bs an,t that bad. Some of Cyrus Hs machines were much worse, like a TD6 or 9.
And is no need to jack any crawler up in the air. Put a jack under a grouser plate and roll it forward ! Bolts for pinion flange, undo the plug on the outside and go in with a socket and extension.
Now if you want a caterpillar that IS a real PITA to work on buy a 933 or 955H. Makes a HD6G look like it was designed by proffesionals !
tits tyres and tracks

they all cost you money
