Block heater for D-17

I'm sure some of you have tried a block heater on a D-17.  I'd be interested in some recommendations.

Cheapest one is generally the coffee pot style, has a tank you plumb into the block drain at the bottom, and the bypass hose, at the top.  Kat's is about as good as any other, just be sure to follow the instructions, this type needs to be mounted vertically, or very nearly so, or it can burn itself up, from the element being exposed, out of coolant...

Also make sure they are well away from wires!! I had to rewire a tractor for someone this summer because one of those melted his wired I was just glad that was all that happened.   Do you have a gas or diesel? My gas has always started with full choke then cut it back to almost no choke and let it run to warm up. That is the good thing about the gas.
