My 160 hydraulics quit working after a few minutes of running.   You can turn it off and start it up and they work.  Then it repeats.   I changed fluids.  I cleaned the elemts under the tank.  Can those be bad?

Thanks Tim

Was it low on oil, it takes 29 quarts of oil (7 1/4gal). I would assume you put the correct amount back in at the oil change, and it still don't work right, so hmm. Usually they lose prime, so no pressure at start. But yours works, then stops.  What hydraulics are you using, just the 3pt? But if you are sending oil out to large cylinders, then maybe it is lack of oil.

Did you clean the other two screens? One is forward of the shifting lever by the remote levers, and the transmission/hyd screen just forward of the seat?  Dale

think the above pics are the key - are you running universal hyd fluid? Origionally they had a thicker oil - but actually run better on the thinner 821  we have actually punched small holes with an ice pick in the strainer to facilitate oil flow when cold-  the other issue- and hope it is not it, is if the gear is spinning on the pump shaft...

When told "it's not the money,it's the principle", remember, it's always the money..

I drained the oil and filled it up until the side plug flows. I used universal which is supposed to be close to 30wt. I cleaned the element in figure 19. By the way that replacement is almost $250 (ouch). I will clean the screen next.   It's both the 3 point and remote cylinder. The pump was replaced 2 years ago. I will also check to see if there might be a crack in a hose that would cause it to loose prime.

Thanks Tim

Well I found the problem. I took out the screen in the transmission out. It was so clogged it was disfigured.   I was going to take a picture of it , but I would be too embarrassed to show it. I missed that when I bought the tractor and changed all the filters. Hydraulics work great now. Thanks for the replies.

Dale and Tbran nailed it, home run.
These tractors are at the age where dirt and corrosion are an issue.
For instance, my fuel bowl is getting a collection of rust now.
But the hydraulics suction strainer was clean on mine.
Tim, if you did take a picture, please post it, would like to see.
