For those people that have experience with 3pt hitches, I have some questions.

The AC made top link that attaches to the rockshaft, does it clamp on tightly and rock with the shaft or does it fit loosely?

The AC made 3pt adapter reached all the way up to the bell to attach. The aftermarket units attach to the drawbar and have shorter arms. Does one type lift more weight than the other?

Does the arm length make much difference for side sway?

I guess I am looking for guys that have used both the AC 3pt adapter and a aftermarket system. Looking for the good and bad of each design.

Thanks

AC top link clamped tight. Modern 3 pt hitches bolt to the drawbar. That lets you use the drawbar and hitch without swapping back and forth. It also retains use of the traction booster while using the hitch. You can buy a new 3 pt that goes all the way to the snap coupler bell. It all depends on how much you use the drawbar and how much you like swapping back and forth.

I have one of each. I never use the one that bolts to the drawbar and uses standard ford lower links. Swaping is not a problem for me I just swap tractors. Either one will lift the front of the tractor when you have too much wieght on it. I think the wishbone one sways a little more, but the only time I use it with the sway chains disconnected is with the post hole digger. The sway comes in handy then and I can't use it or the finish mower with the drawbar installed. The PTO shaft hits the drawbar at full drop.the wishbone is much harder to put on the tractor. That's why I fairly take it off.

I just posted a thread the other day about how I installed a 3-point on my WD and made my own budget friendly top link. My set up does leave the original drawbar in place as well. I will try to post the link, if not go back a few pages on the forum home or search "New WD top link" thread. If you scroll down a bit in the thread there is a full explanation of how I put it together and some pics of it.

I have my top link clamped solid to the rockshaft so it does rotate with it but I just set it so it is horizontal when down and adjust your toplink; as it rotates when you pick up the 3 point it might just tilt the implement a little more but doesn't matter as it is still adjusted when you set it back down and it goes back to horizontal.

3 point link

cpg, can you post the measurement of your set up from bolt on the drawbar to where the 3 pt implement attaches. Your post inspired me

would you mind posting some pics of your 3pt with the measurements? I would be interested in how you made yours.

Sure, I will take some pics while I have the tape measure out so you can see the measurements of how it's set up.
