Always thought it, now I'll type it. I'd love to give wi50 and Pankey even money and even tractors, 3 months and an entire afternoon with a sled to prove who knows how to make one pull.

Back in august there was a dyno challenge in West End North Carolina. A friend of mine got tired of hearing about the 250 HP farmall M's people thought they had....a few months prior to the august 2nd date set for it, pankey was over on ytmag requesting an engine build off. I made him fully aware that there was a date and a place. I had an engine ready to ship and crated ready should the event happen, my own personal engine. Its one I've got a hundred hours in head, manifolding and carbueration built for Div 4 NATPA pulling.
As it turned out, absolutely no one took Lawrence Wilson up on the opportunity to hook to a dyno. Brian Lively offered to show up and cover the event in the Hook magazine. The problem with these bs slingers is that you'll never see them show and compete. You'll never see them hook to a sled or dyno for any official documentation. However, I do go run practically every weekend Aaron, if you wish to check the NTPA website, the WTPA or happen to catch a little pulling on Tuesday nights once in a while on RFD TV, you can find me. |

I'd build a U or UC, I don't think it would be easy to hit that weight, but there's a lot of potential in those engines.

As Pankey says dyno and flow benches don't pull the sled tractors do and WiFi had two builds at one pull and they didn't make a good showing . The track is the test everything else is just a excuse

I would build my old D17 with the v code to what I would call stage 2,and go to work on the head and manifold, degree the stock cam, maybe some new rockers with a better ratio, maybe some other tweaks . I pulled at 3.5 in 2nd low range from 4500 to 5500, I've never pulled 6mph. I'd setup to pull in 2nd hi. I'd still use the same 18.4x26 Firestone 23 rears, but with a little more air, retune my balance
It might be a 6mph class but I don't care if I only go 4mph, I just want to go the farthest...... |

I'd build a styled WC, because that's what I already did for a similar set of rules and I've been very competitive...Every time we leave with this tractor my wife say's , "I hope you don't bring another #*$! trophy home!!"

I'd like to jump into a faster bigger tractor. But if I was to build a 4 cylinder wd style tractor. Marty Nelson would be doing it. Around 380 cubes. Otherwise a D21 or 190xt.
