Miller'z rule.... non running= scrap+10% up to say $500 depending on implements and condition.
The HUGE problem with 'nonrunner' is 1) condition of engine, 2) can't check out hydro or tranny, 3) can't check mower deck 4) brakes ??? You could easily drop $1000 into either restoring or replacing the engine( plus a LOT of your time) only to find out, arrgh, the hydro is shot...ka-ching ,another 1000 to fix that...then what...rotted deck, spindles gone, needs a $140 belt..., etc. Sorry, but I've been bit a couple times in the past, so I'm 'cautious' about ANY colour 'non runner' You, and only you, know how deep your pockets are and how badly you 'just have to have it'. Late 60's is bad news for those mower decks. If 1 belt goes from engine shaft to another with 2 belts and a gearbox on each end take a very long look at the gears inside the boxes. That deck will have 2 blades and discharge out the back. If its one of them you don't want anything to do with it if your planning to mow.
I've been looking for a set of those gears since the 70's, and nobody makes em.
Good tractor, deck sucks. Mines an 857 if that helps any. That series first number is hp, last number is year made.

Can you post some photos of that tractor?
Really hard to say without seeing it (and hearing it); if it's just missing 1-2 parts it can make a big difference in price. Wheel Horses that are 1970's and after are very interchangeable in their parts, the parts were very standard in the way they attached so a '73 shares a lot of parts with a '89 or '07, and even different models shared a lot; but during the 60's, the parts for each year seemed very unique, like WH was testing out ideas (and some parts are hard to locate). Walker is correct on the model number system used in the 60's to help date it; also, if it has a Kohler engine, that label would tell you when the engine was made (usually made about 2 months prior to the tractor), check Kohler site for their ID system, very nice. (the middle number is usually the gearing or staring system, i.e.. 953 is 1963 9hp, 1054 is '64 10hp, both 5 = electric start, 0 manual, 6 was six speed, etc.). IMO, as-is, if the tractor looks nice, then $100-200 would be in the selling price range, with the implements. Michigan Glen (with 12 Wheel Horses) Edited by GlenPettit - 17 Apr 2017 at 9:11am |
