I know Merv is looking for the newest HD6, but we should also be on the lookout for the oldest HD6. This is serial #1117 which should be the first year of production. We finished are restoration last week in time to take it to the 74th annual REDWOOD REGION LOGGING CONFERENCE  for the historical equipment display (paint was still wet). It was the only AC there but we plan on having more ready when the show returns to Ukiah in 2 years. ( It was a popular display). photo gallery is of other show items

It looks great!  I had an old HD11 about the same vintage, serial number 505, which is still working on a brush cutter, but it's not nearly that pretty.

Thanks for posting; that looks great; certainly a early one, haven,t seen any 1000 serial no machines here. Earliest ive seen would be in the 3000 # and then a nonrunner.
Lazyts. that is a real early 11B, so don,t send it china. Mactractors got HD11B 1351, earliest original runner ive seen here.

Thanks for the positive feed back guys, it's been a two year project and there's still a couple of things missing (no ones noticed yet). Our father bought  HD11 ser.815 new with a cable blade and winch for logging. It logged in N. Ca. then went to British Columbia for a year to log and back here. We later converted it to hydraulics and then sold it to help finance our first powershift HD11B series dozer. (yes,we wish we could find it and get it back now). Also if any one has comments on picture size that I've used let us know. I'm using 640 x 480 and that seems to work the best. I was going to do a separate posting photo gallery of HD6 restoration with that size. Also Merv our newest HD6 serial # is 70C-24076.

We don't have that old 11 anymore- and the old guy who has it now might not be skinning cats for too much longer, but that is the way it goes.  I do hate to see these old machines going for scrap, but you can't save them all.
I bought that old HD11 for $800- the engine had gone in it, and some rocket scientist modified the engine mounts and fitted a 360 cubic inch gas engine in it!  It was quite a bit of work for the 1/2 hour that engine lasted- it blew up right away.  Then the next guy bought it, he was going to fit a 3208 Cat, but never got around to it.  When I got it I refitted an original Allis Chalmers 516 Buda style engine and it was ready to go again...it had new rails on it, believe it or not...I traded it for seven bred heifers.
The old guy who bought it had been pushing a v-cutter with an old TD9, so the HD11 was a step up- I think he was pretty proud of that old 11.   It's nice to see guys putting the old iron to use, kind of like keeping history alive in a way.  I should track it down and post a picture of the old girl one day...

Nice Old HD6 Machine, wish these were still made.  Wonder what one would cost new today if they were still being made.

AC Mel can you take a video of that old beauty crawling around and post it on here or you tube.  We need more HD6 videos - they were one heck of a machine.

Orangeman, my brother is in charge of videos, he's got a pretty good library started but hasn't posted any yet, and of course now no one wants to be the first to get this tractor dirty (but we will). B26240, the Mack truck is a 1926 I think. It's from THE ROOTS OF MOTIVE POWER museum in Willits, Ca.  They were driving it around the show. The TD24 was also from the museum. I think the museum will have some large old ACs in there future to (they don't know it yet).http://rootsofmotivepower.com   Check out the link to the museum, it's about preserving old logging trains and equipment

Real nice looking HD-6.  I've got some good straight rock guards for an HD-6, spocket, roller, idler, etc.... I'm in the san diego area.

Very nice restoration Mel, you've done a nice job, I had an identical 1959 model HD6B S/N 11885 with the same blade, winch and 4 roller track frames. I see on Machinery Trader that Zimmermann Tractors in Missouri have for sale a 1955 HD6B Ag tractor S/N213 which is a goer. Considering the S/N's started at No 101 this is a very early machine.

Thanks guys, Tad the paint we used was the Tractor Supply valspar AC orange. That paint was discontinued , at least in California. They had to change the formula to meet new EPA regs. The new Tractor Supply paint formula is a lighter orange. We will probably continue to use it in the future because it's easy to get and seems to be the best bang for your buck

I have a differential  leak on sprocket shaft on  my 1973 HD6EP any Ideas about where I can get new  seals Minnpar dose not have them would they be the same as the older HD6

I posed a search by part number on google for my HD7G for a final seal, found one and only one in CA, I have it to install in the next few weeks.  If you can get the Allis P/N off the Minnpar site you may try the same tactic to see if anyone still has them in stock.
 
I entered the P/N and the words seal package on the search line, I got quite a few hits and the one that had the seal was in them.

Looks nice Mel. Dont see that many people tackle a crawler these days. I know its a drive up North, but that would be a nice unit in Lynden WA. for the 2013 Gathering of the Orange Convention the first weekend in Aug. 2013.

Hey Mel, I used the Tisco paint (synthetic enamel) with the hardener on the HD11, I would not recommend this to anyone, the hood and top of the fuel tank are no longer orange but more an oxidized yellow -orange and it has only been 2 or 3 summers of California sun, very disappointing for all the work I went to bare metal the whole thing. Had I to do it over again it would be poly paint, although very expensive I would still have a shiny coat to be proud of, the expense of a paint job is the prep work not the paint but that is too late now and I don't plan on doing another for sometime. At any rate, yours looks great and I hope it stays that way, and I am sure parking them inside would make a big difference also. Tad
