New AC Video

Thanks for sharing Austin. I met a gentleman a couple of weeks ago that worked for AC in the Turbine division for several years. He was telling me about the crane that's still there in the shoe store. Seems a shame that it can't still be working to help make a living for Americans the way it used to, and is now just a "curiosity".

Thank you Austin for posting that clip. I really enjoyed it. It makes you wonder just what they were thinking of when it all went down. It is one of many in the city that has failed.

Many people really do not know what Allis Chalmers was involved in. I have spoken to many people who have told me that their only business was farm machinery. I believe the reason why I collect the Allis Chalmers product is the engineering expertise that they provided. These machines are a reminder of the talents of our  American forefathers who made this country great. Many of the features that were standard on the Allis products were light years ahead of the other competitors. Nuclear Energy, Flour  milling, Construction Equipment, Steam Turbines and Water Pumping to name a few. The list is endless. The employees of Allis Chalmers should feel very proud of their heritage. The loss of  these organizations  breaks my heart because it is our heritage that is disappearing.  American hard work, pride and ingenuity  can be seen in the achievements of Allis Chalmers.

As part of the `05 "Coming Home"  "Gathering" in Union Grove WI some of you may remember the Tractor Caravan that Don Snow organized, and had its origin in Sand Lake MI.  I joined the caravan after it crossed Lake Michigan and we continued on to State Fair Park  where several hundred tractors gathered to caravan through the neighborhood where The Allis Plant was located.  Hundreds of locals waited in the rain as we paraded through the streets as well as through a portion of the factory.  You could just tell how much it meant to people who lived  in the shadows of the now closed factory to see us honor them and the products they had a hand in building.  Those who drove tractors in the caravan stayed overnite in a YMCA facility and the next day had breakfast a a nearby McDonalds before continuing on through Milwaukee to Union Grove.  While we were eating a group of former employees were eating there too.  They noticed our Allis garb and  told us how much they appreciated the Allis parade the nite before.  They also shared some stories humorous stories of things that happened during their employment.  Our  Allis Club has  several people who who are former Allis Employees.  One of them is Esther Pape who was an executive secretary and worked for Allis for 43 years.  The other is Sam Winker.  He worked at the Proving Grounds.  We feel fortunate to have them as club members
